Psychedelic mushrooms don't contain nearly as much psilocin as psilocybin and the very small amount of psilocin in the mushroom is usually destroyed by drying and such.
The psilocybin is converted into psilocin by an enzyme.
In my opinion more psilocin would be a bad thing.
Psilocin has a higher potentcy but is highly unstable.

you can find L-tryptophan at any drugstore in the vitamin department... I'm still a little dubious as to weather or not it'll convert into tryptamine and then to SILLYSIN (yuk yuk) or if it'll just muck up the substrate. I'm assuming that as long as proper sterilization occurs it shouldn't really hurt anything, but.... who knows, i haven't tried it yet because my current batch is in vitro and i don't have any more space to do a experimental batch.

The difference, chemically between Psilocin and Psilocybin is one Phosphorus atom. I bought some super triple phosphate to add to the substrate. What do you guys think of this idea? Is strate Phosphate bad? wi the shrooms be able to digest it and use it to make more psilocybin?

I heared that psilocybin is converted to psilocin pretty much immediately upon absorbtion into the body. Psilocybin is much more stable however and can last in the dried mushroom for much longer periods of time. If so, I wonder why anyone would want to tilt the ratio in favor of psilocin.

You CANNOT find L-Tryptophan at any vitamin store in the US!It is still stupidly banned by the FDA.
I think y'all may be missing the point about substrate doping.From what I inferred, the total amount of both psilo's are increased with the addition of tryptamine.
I *think* there is still a net gain in potency,whatever the ratio winds up to be.
Where it really gets interesting tho' is thinking about adding other more complex tryptamines.DPT in the substrate = 4OH DPT,and like that.This is mentioned in TIHKAL-anyone tried this? I grew some once with chopped up phalaris in the cakes-they were strong,but they are anyway!

are you sure about L-Tryptophan being banned??? that must've been a state legislation decision because I was at the Grocery store a couple of days ago and it's still there, on the shelf, waiting to be bought. i'm definently interested in anything that could possibly increase residual potency of both psilocybin and psilocin... most of the time they are consumed before they have had time to dry out so the loss of psilocin is minimal. If there are sitting around for drying it's generally by cool dessicant so hopefully there's little loss... unfortunantly I don't know how much is lost during the drying process, even if it is gentle like cool dessicant. anyone have any references of possible tryptamines that are still readily available that may come in useful? since mushrooms obtain alot of their nutrients through osmosis would it be possible to leave something like 5-Meo-dmt or dipt in the substrate and create a super-trippy shroom? just fumbling around with the possibilities...[This message has been edited by bigmanchu_2000 (edited May 10, 2000).]

L-Tryptophan was banned by the FDA like a decade ago.There was one contaminated batch,and a few people died.It was pulled off the market,then coincidentally,Prozac came on the market,and the FDA continued to ban it.Unless the ban has just been lifted....(It has still been sold in the meantime,just not for human consumption,like at pet shops...)
Not too sure about the osmosis thing.Do know that mushrooms can take some molecules and stick an OH on them.I don't think this would work with 5MeO-it might get too crowded
(4OH,5MeO).

has anyone tried 5-HTP instead?
i have it, and have cakes... i just dont know the dosage to give the shrooms, and i dont want to OD them. i use the straw tek, so that is how i plan to get the stuff in there, after the first flush probably.

that's a reasonable suggestion! I'd love to know what happens if you have any sucess with that. I'd think that with the 5-htp you wouldn't use more that a few milligrams mixed with the water you're adding down the straw. i don't know if 5-htp will convert to anything because it is basically a stable molecule but wouldn't hurt to try, plus a little 5-htp in the fruits (even if it doesn't convert) would probably be benificial to the trip regardless.
