would you enter the dream tank?.....
    #13854624 -

I am not sure what philosopher came of this idea but il share it with ya.

if someone had created a 'dream tank' and inside this tank you can live the perfect life, your perfect life, but it is not real......and once you enter this tank, you won't know that it is not real. would you enter it? many philosophers say that no-one would enter it because no-one would want to live a life that isn't real. But we have no real evidence that this life is real.... so we might as well go into this 'dream tank' right? after all this 'reality' mostly consists of pain, ignorance and hatred, so why wouldn't anyone want to escape it? (a lot like the matrix this shit.) I would definitely go into this tank! (ignorance is bliss)

anyway....

the whole point of this post: Would YOU enter it??

No because I think that it would be selfish much like suicide.  I would be leabing all of my pain and my troubles with my loved ones.

I share the belief of many of my contemporaries that the spiritual crisis pervading all spheres of Western industrial society can be remedied only by a change in our world view. We shall have to shift from the materialistic, dualistic belief that people and their environment are separate, toward a new conciousness of an all-encompassing reality, which embraces the experiencing ego, a reality in which people feel their oneness with animate nature and all of creation.- Albert Hoffman

Idk if I completely agree with life being mostly shit. It probably depends on the person if you are speaking from an emotional standpoint. If you mean our understanding or life is shit, then i also disagree. I feel science is a competent interpretation of reality. This doesn't change the fact that you should enter.

we are a dream tank, it takes a while for our persistent focus to manifest the perfect life,

the key is doing it ,

you obviously don't understand what dreams are , they aren't an eternal refuge and they would become a prison, spend a few hours in one and realize that there is only so much that you can do in a closed circuit reality .

i would go in the tank every day though , not forever , but every day .

Is there a trust factor? The only reason I wouldn't do it is if I wasn't sure the inventor of the dream tank was over-confident or not.

I'd like to think I wouldn't:
I used to be an avid video gamer and it was interfering with my life.
Specifically I played WoW, and I was very good at it.  One of the top players on my server.
In order to cut myself from it completely, I intentionally ruined the game for myself.
How?  I created a private server on which I gave myself god mode.  If there was something I came across that I couldn't defeat, I simply modified my character until I was able to.
After about an hour of running around on god mode, I was bored out of my wits.  Also I couldn't simply return to the normal game mode.  I wasn't about to dedicate hours out of my night to achieving something that I had just previously been able to do instantly.
I effectively ruined the game for myself, which was my intention.

I think that entering the dream tank would be a similar experience.  Without challenges, life loses a lot meaning.

Then again the temptation is enormous.  I guess I'd like to think that I am the type of person to hold true to his ideals, but you never really know who you are until it comes down to that moment.

You could always program in a challenge... what if life, right now, is one that you pre-selected outside of the simulation?  :strokebeard3:

Mind = Blown

Even if it had preprogrammed challenges, I can't see it allowing for actual failure because wouldn't that defeat the purpose of entering into a dream world to begin with?
And if there were no actual possibility of failure, then just by probability with enough time you would acclimate to all the preprogrammed challenges and reach that state of ennui, which would be enough to keep you from entering into the dream tank to begin with.
If you did program the possibility of failure into it, you would be foregoing any sense of self-preservation.

Perhaps failure in the simulation is death in real life?  Imagine dying only to be confronted with Reset, Level-Up and High Score buttons.  :ooo:
