It was so funny. When I was being stripped searched and the officer saw my ring he blushed so hard. Everyone at the warden's desk was laughing and asking me how bad it hurt. I haven't actually been to a real "prison" for any amount of time myself. I went there overnight once from not being able to produce money for an outstanding fine which gave me a warrant. It wasn't a regular holding area or county jail. They had me in jail first. Then I was transferred to a prison. I was out within hours. Someone brought the money I owed down.
Known plenty of people who have spent months or years in the prison here. None of them have been violated - or at least not that they have admitted. I tend to believe them.
The prisons around here are not nearly as bad as the stuff you see on movies or hear about. They are by no means "nice", but I think a lot of things about them are exaggerated or rumors. I don't doubt that rapes/murders/etc do happen, but I believe that they are more isolated events.

Everyone that I've talked to with prison experience give me the impression that if you don't bother anyone, you rarely get bothered. A lot of extreme acts committed in prisons are in retaliation for something someone did. This even coming from a couple guys who are very small in size. One of them is only like 5 ft tall exactly. Other guys being very small or scared of fighting, etc.  Yet spent long terms in prison without ever being bothered. This being the case for my specific area. I'm sure the frequency of these acts can vary greatly depending on the specific population. The amount of sexual offenders, or people who would even do something like that.

Yeah, I agree. I think it mostly depends on the specific prison or population. I don't doubt that there are some really bad ones. I think that the guards/staff should do more to keep things under control in those extreme cases. Some places probably don't care or intentionally let that stuff go on. Or even participate in it. That kind of thing is sickening IMO. That shit should not go on at all I don't think.

I also think that people in for minor offenses shouldn't be exposed to that kind of shit. If the goal is to reform people, they shouldn't allow people who are serious about staying out of trouble be exposed to situations that force them to defend themselves, or make them commit more crimes to survive inside. Especially people just serving for drug offenses or something stupid like that.
Though I do agree that this does cause a significant amount fear of being locked up and second thought before committing crimes for people on the outside. I know I couldn't deal with being in there at all. Rapes or no rapes. It's not my kind of place. I'd do almost anything I can think of to avoid going there.

This is spot on.  There's a really good 20+ page thread about "Surviving prison" or "Going to Prison" or something similar on one of the cannabis boards, I'm thinking International Cannagraphic because I read there the most but it could have been Weedtalk or several others as well I really have no clue.

Honestly though it really depends on two factors:

One is where you end up.  Jails and prisons can both be very dangerous places to be but it depends on where you're at in the world.  Canadian jails are notoriously gravy while American jails (pretty much anywhere) suck in comparison. 

Very small or very large jails can be very bad places.  Small jails cater to corruption, large jails have a tendency of being state county jails where lots and lots of extremely violent people are living RIGHT NEXT to people who are in jail for DUI or parking tickets.  A lot of shit goes down because people don't understand the rules and people in large jails, the ones that do, tend to be gregarious and also tend to be predatory.


That said, how tough of a time you have in any incarceration situation is the people you're housed most directly with.  If you've got some psycho with razorblades all up his ass that's dying to fuck anyone that comes in the cell, well you're probably going to have problems.  Most people aren't like that though.  Most people just want to do their time and get the fuck out of jail or prison and go back to trying to live life.

Hahahaha. I was in there for about fifteen hours. I was just fucking bored, hadn't busted a nut in a while, and with nothing else to do but pace around the 5X8 cell, I thought why the hell not? :shrug: Jail and prison are actually inhumane as fuck though. After spending only half a day in there, I think it should only be for murders or theft honestly. I wasn't sure how long I was going to be in there. I figured three to five days tops, but even being in the cell half a day, I was already looking for ways I could escape. Just for fun mostly, but I was examining every inch of that hell hole for a weak point.
