The mars volta, King crimson, AMM, some of the Omar Rodriguez Lopez projects, Blk Jks, are some good progressive rock bands, Acoustic lady also pretty amazing progressive jazz.... but theres so many blues/jazz/rock bands that rock the shit outta shit!

Lots of techno, tons of classic rock. '90s rock seemed to be the last bit of good rock to come out IMO. I really like grunge. There are a few good songs here and there these days but as far as radio play, WTF happened?

i listen to a lot of animal collective if thats your thing

if not try a change in genre

check out tom waits

has to be the opposite of jam bands

white stripes rock

regina spektor is a genius as is fiona apple

just listen to bob dylan and the beatles basically the inspiration for every song since the 60s

I'm a huge fan of the classics. Led zeppelin being my favourite band still to this day. Fleetwood mac, Boston, CCR, Eagles, Styx, Black Sabbath, Floyd, Bob Seger, Beatles, etc.

I'm also a huge fan of Black Label Society, Five finger death punch and I absoulutely LOVE Days Of The New. Such great talent in that music. Maylene and the sons of diaster are also pretty incredible.

And I love how Airbourne is bringing back some badass ac/dc inspired rock.

Yes, just because you hear a lot about bands that explicitly appeal to the user base does not mean that's all anyone listens to.

I like outlaw country, bluegrass, Blues and Rock and Fucking Roll. J. cash, towns van zandt, muddy waters, led zep, the rolling stones, woody guthrie, warren zevon, and many more. the faggiest music i like is norah jones. i donno why but i love that girl.

and fuck all the bands mentioned in the title. Fucking Neo Hippies and rave kids all love that shit. i respect the old school hippies but now days all they stand for is degeneracy. Young hippies are shitting on the 60's. Take a shower dude.

if its not mainstream on some level its probably not good or its new or its just like someone else who IS mainstream but not as good as they are. if you don't listen to mainstream music because its mainstream they you are a hipster and i am sorry.

Ambient, ambient trance, progressive trance, IDM,. Groups like Vibrasphere, CBL, Shulman, Matt Hillier, Thom Brennan, Trtonal, Markus Schulz, Andy Moor. I used to listen to A LOT of death metal. Bands in such would include Man Must Die, All Shall Perish, Despised Icon, The Acacia Strain, Whitechapel, and Winds Of Plague. Don't listen to metal anymore. I'm all about super chill music.

As for Shpongle, dude, I never really like Simon Posford. Although, I do have to say that I enjoy listening to OTT sometimes. Dubstep.. ? Don't know what that is, but I am sure I wouldn't like it.

NOOOO... when i say mainstream i mean something that gets popular thats why i said if its not mainstream on some level. i don't like much of anything on mtv or vh1 either. i am mainly addressing the underground junkies. once their bands get too popular they drop em or if they are shitty enough they will love them forever. grateful dead has been mainsteam and still is ya kno that's what i mean. how easily accessible it is.

i like this bluegrass type shit, maybe yall will. try it if u dare!
