I listen to Tool, but I dont listen to them as much as I use to. I've expanded my taste in music away from groups like Tool. I listen to jazz, classical, funk, oldies, and electronic.

Today for example I woke up listening to Bach (classical always puts me in a good mood in the mornings). I listened to On the Corner by Miles Davis while eating lunch. Then at work I listened to the Mars Volta and the Morning 40 Federation. Now I am listening to the Bad Plus.

Got shake it up like a bag of popcorn. :grin:

im a jazz musician, so i listen to alot of that. i also like classical music, classic rock, metal, indie, pop when i'm shitfaced, ska and reggae, rap on occasion, blues, folk, indian classical(sitars and tabla), punk rock, etc.

pretty much the only thing i don't listen to is country, there are only a very few country musicians i would ever hear willingly.

Tool, Shpongle, and Grateful Dead are some of my all time favorites, but I actually haven't been listening to any them much lately.

There is a lot of good music out there beyond the stereotypical psychedelic stuff...

although i do like Tool, just not in large doses anymore.

but when i do listen to music (it's not often anymore that i do) it's usually something completely random and weird like Acid Mothers Temple or some j-pop/rock/metal.

The mars volta, King crimson, AMM, some of the Omar Rodriguez Lopez projects, Blk Jks, are some good progressive rock bands, Acoustic lady also pretty amazing progressive jazz.... but theres so many blues/jazz/rock bands that rock the shit outta shit!

Lots of techno, tons of classic rock.  '90s rock seemed to be the last bit of good rock to come out IMO.  I really like grunge.  There are a few good songs here and there these days but as far as radio play, WTF happened?

I'm a huge fan of the classics.  Led zeppelin being my favourite band still to this day.  Fleetwood mac, Boston, CCR, Eagles, Styx, Black Sabbath, Floyd, Bob Seger, Beatles, etc.

I'm also a huge fan of Black Label Society, Five finger death punch and I absoulutely LOVE Days Of The New.  Such great talent in that music.  Maylene and the sons of diaster are also pretty incredible.

And I love how Airbourne is bringing back some badass ac/dc inspired rock.

Ambient, ambient trance, progressive trance, IDM,. Groups like Vibrasphere, CBL, Shulman, Matt Hillier, Thom Brennan, Trtonal, Markus Schulz, Andy Moor. I used to listen to A LOT of death metal. Bands in such would include Man Must Die, All Shall Perish, Despised Icon, The Acacia Strain, Whitechapel, and Winds Of Plague. Don't listen to metal anymore. I'm all about super chill music.

As for Shpongle, dude, I never really like Simon Posford. Although, I do have to say that I enjoy listening to OTT sometimes. Dubstep.. ? Don't know what that is, but I am sure I wouldn't like it.

I mostly listen to metal and rock. Lately i'm especialy into progressive death metal ( bands like Atheist, Opeth, Cynic, Spastic Ink,...). I was triping on shrooms the other day and i felt realy connected with Cynic music.

Wow, someone else likes Old Crow Medicine Show, they are great. I also love Tom Waits, Oingo Boingo, Nirvana, all the classics from 60-70's: Doors, Led Zep etc.

Only thing I really don't care for is dance/electronic=boring.

Chopin is better than Valium, check out the nocturnes, beautiful.

I listen to pretty much anything except R&B, Gospel, Disco, and Classical...  And most dubstep sucks too.

Been on a country kick here lately, with some 90's alternative, bluegrass, and classic rock mixed in.

I do love The Dead but that is FAR from the only thing I listen to...  Tool and Shpongle kick ass too but they're not the greatest thing ever

I listen to a variety of styles of music.  I think most people do.  Whatever genre it fits into, I look for the same basic elements in my music:

-rhythmic variation
-melodic & harmonic variance
-originality/uniqueness
-instrumentation suited to the music
-appropriate vocals (if vocals exist)
-technical merit (production values, skill of performers, etc.)

If a song has at least 3 of these elements, I'll probably like it.  I also enjoy songs with symphonic structure.  I believe I owe this to my life-long love of classical music.












P.S. Dubstep is dead.

i guess the most personal stuff i listen to is the hip hop that comes from my state.. it's the only hiphop/rap that i ever listen to

otherwise i like other electronic music that isn't dubstep. and i like rock bands like Staind and Incubus

i have a fairly wide taste in music and can listen to about anything as long as it's not bad.  there's a lot of other bands i don't know a lot about but i like some songs.  there's a lot of music in the world, thankfully :smile:

Shpongle and Tool are good when the time is right, but Dubstep is universally bullshit and GD is kinda boring from what I've heard.
