What do you think about Dianetics and Scientology?

I've been very depressed for many years and have looked everywhere for help with my depression and answers to my problems, so I thought.
Last night I was thinking about all the bullshit in my life that I am going through , that I have been through , that I have put myself through and I just started to breakdown,
(I do this every 5 to 6 years)  then all of sudden I heard the voice in my head say something very intelligent, "Give all your problems to God".
I thought for a minute and I cried even more to think of the possibility  that I could actually dump all this shit on someone, something...

The bottom line is  I'm not ready to let go of all of this crap, obviously, or maybe I can't let go of it,  maybe I don't think that I am worthy of such freedom  .
Maybe I deserve everything I get,  every bad feeling I feel. This sucks! I know I'm fucked up.

Maybe I should just kill myself, but one thing I am not is selfish, I have responsibilities.
I never contemplate suicide but I welcome death is that the same thing?

I came across a friend that just so happened to mention something about Scientology, Dianetics in a passing conversation,
it made me want to check into it again, like I said I have tried almost everything.

I just want to be able to let go of all this crap and the more I want to let go, it seems the harder I hold on to it.
It's not doing me any good and I know it. But for some reason I can't help it.

They want your money. That's what they really want + "helping you". There is an interests conflict.

You should realy search for help, even if it's help from a religion... But just make sure you check (like you are doing with this post) that the people that help you are there to help you.. not here to make profits.

OK take a step back and think about this.  You are just looking for an easy way to dump all of your problems and be spiritually "free".  Religion is not that answer, and you know this.  You are just looking for an easy way out.  It would be a lot more helpful if i knew what kinds of problems you were experiencing, but if possible try to confront them.  You are just in a vulnerable state in your life and would be a pity for you to be taken advantage of so 5-6 years later you can find out this religion is bullshit and the problems all come back and you're in the exact same spot.  Hope i could somehow influences your decision and show the foolishness of your ways.

What's wrong with giving your problems over to Jesus? Two thousand years of tradition can't be totally useless. You don't have to give up your powers of reason to create faith.

Just because people of been doing it for a long time doesn't mean it's true.  Christians used to belief the earth was round, and Charles Darwin busted creationism only a little less then 200 years ago.  Science is giving us new answers to problems all the time, so to belief something just because it's been around for a while is pure ignorance.

Absolutely not. How did Darwin coming up with the theory of evolution invalidate the emotional solace of religion? Science's answer to feeling this way is anti-depressant drugs. I don't think waiting around for some better pill is going to make OP feel better.

And now that i read it over i was using science to prove a point that religion is not always right, so just because it's been around for a while doesn't mean it's true.  According to the bible the earth is 6000 years old.  I think that speaks for itself...

You obviously have a reading problem. I didn't say it had to be true. Faith is belief in something you have no means of verifying (indeed, something that is probably false). Faith is a choice and an effort. You create faith. Your reward is not feeling like the  night sky is empty.
