It's getting close to that time of year, around end of april to beginning of spring. I went out for around 2 hours tonight, searched around an acre worth of pine rich area, not much success found one little curious guy, not a Welili, but still interesting.

Wait till after the storms this weekend maybe with luck and magic....err. I doubt it.
I say it's going to be a good while till we see a real flush. Luck may bring you a stray here or there, lol. I'm really interested in Pan. Subbs right around this time of year, though. Weird to see that there aren't any finds yet. Usually see some by now... Pan. Subbs are right around the corner. Weilii are down the street. lol

I'm from GA but, not in the area of weilii I find cubes. me to are hoping on this weekend.
I think after that rain we had yesterday, might just might be enough to get some cubies to
pop up but still no actives for 2010...

Why is it that Weilii grow in such a small area geographically? The weather conditions aren't special to just that area. Is it just that they haven't been able to spread that far yet? Would it be possible to start an outdoor patch somewhere with similar conditions outside of GA?

Maybe its the georgia red clay that they grow on only? I'm not sure, but for the past 3 years, whenever I have found a weilii it has been around red clay. Maybe that has something to do with it, but like I said I'm just not sure.

there are lots of areas in the south (pretty much all above the the coastal areas)that are rich in red clay but in my opinion there are just certain mushroom species native to one area. Sorta like tree species that can only grow in certain regions. I do think it would be very possible to make an outdoor bed in Ga as long as its not too far south due to weilii liking a little cooler temps to fruit. Im sure the reach of this mushroom stretches further than people think but the spores are here and this is the area that they have adapted to.

Has anyone ever found any active species in the same N/W GA location as the weilii but besides cubes?

as far as distribution goes, is it worth it to hunt other species in the area?

The Psathyrella (renamed to Lacrymaria Velutina recently iirc) are out and about friends.  This indicator genus has always been present during my weilii finds from last fall.  The spring fruiting is here and the weilii are up somewhere I'm most certain.  Good luck all.
