Life is a struggle to enjoy life, not a struggle to survive...

This goes for all life.

Perhaps I've been influenced by seeing hundreds of cows "struggling" to eat grass and shit all day, lately.

But, I never eat anything because I want to survive, I eat because eating is enjoyable.

I've never actually cared if I survive or not, my problem is boredom; finding things to fill up a long lonely day.

I'm sick of these nature documentaries being about a "struggle to survive". Everything is just trying to have a good time. If it dies, it's just bad luck, thinks the starving polar bear.

Discuss. (hope that isn't too cliche)

are you kidding me? having the luxury of enjoying life is unique to the human species, and maybe some monkeys and dolphins. most other organisms really are doing nothing but trying to eat and reproduce. and cows don't count, they are domesticated and stupid as fuck.

Interesting post. I think much of the struggle for survival takes place on a subconscious level. You can see a deer brought down by the lion struggle until it's last breath.

With the complex self aware brain we have things get more complex but from observing my dogs I think even they feel boredom. I often think it's the limited environment and lack of personal challenge in the modern world that is the cause of much boredom.

Unhappiness is not a surviving skill :grin:

Unhappy people might seem alive, but their chances to survive I might estimate significantly lower than those who choose a happy way of living, or vice versa, can get happiness out of their life.

It's like misery attracts and accumulates misery, leading to 'bad luck' and happiness attracts and accumulates happiness, leading to 'yah man, that's the way it works :wink:'.

edit: But in one way I agree, unhappiness leads to surviving in that way that it makes one want to find a way towards happiness again :cool:

Survival might be overrated, but it's all that we might have. I even mean survival to the next moment as well as the aged end of life.
Of course, if one struggles with one or the other (hapiness and/or survival), chances are higher that one builds up self fulfilling barriers against, holding one apart from it.

"Happiness" as in the most basic level of emotion... the differentiation between good and bad.

It's not, "OH MY FUCKING GOD, I'M FUCKING ALIVE AND BECAUSE OF THAT, I'VE SOOOO FUCKING HAPPY!!"


You can be happy, but still acknowledge that unhappiness is out there... and vice versa.
