Underrated metal.
    #11801994 -

Hey, just a topic for everyone to post any underrated metal bands that they like. I think I may try and post a new one daily. I know Shroomism has his own topic akin to this, but that hasn't been updated in a while and besides, this is hardly a comprehensive list. Just a place for people to show their love and respect for bands who never quite got the attention they deserved.

I have a hundred different bands I could post here, but I have not the time right now, so I'll just start with the first one I come across going down my alphabetical list of bands on iTunes. As it happens, it is Acid Bath! One of my favourite sludge metal bands, for sure.

A typical, and very good, Acid Bath song:

The Blue

And now, two of my favourite songs by them, which are actually a lot more ballad-esque (even if you didn't like the one above, try these two):

Scream of the Butterfly

Graveflower

Post yours!

Screw it, I can't wait another day to post another band.

Acid Bath a bit slow and dark for you? Wish they'd just be upbeat for a change? Well, the next band which catches my eye as I go down the list certainly does this! It is, of course, the superb speed metal outfit, Agent Steel!

Unstoppable Force

And, to show that they can slow down if they need, check out the balladic opening to Chosen to Stay (but then check out the explosive latter half!)

If the vocalist turns you off, he would later leave and be replaced by the much less squeaky Bruce Hall. They also began to focus less on speed (although they still often played at 110% speed) and became more experimental, as you can perhaps hear in the brilliant Ten Fists of the Nations.

Not another band for today, I promise.

Even if this thread gets no replies, I'm going to keep updating it with bands!

Next band is Anathema, a Doom metal band who helped pioneer British death/doom along with Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride. Anathema are the best band of the three, in my opinion, although not in their death/doom; later on they would "mellow out" slightly, almost going to alternative rock, but still staying on the metal side of things, and this is where I feel they shine. They continue to produce some beautiful, dark soundscapes. Good band live too. A few choice cuts:

Fragile Dreams

If you're missing the doom in that particular song, try the title track:

And now something a bit more recent, off their most recent album, we have Pulled Under at 2000 Metres a Second:

I love me some metal, mostly metalcore, or melodic shit, I really don't like to get into sub genres though.

Here's a few of my favorite bands.
Heaven Shall Burn

Bury Your Dead

iwrestledabearonce

Neaera

Wow, I can't believe...I read the thread title, thought "Acid Bath," and what do you know, that's what was mentioned in the OP.

Too bad that aside from Graveflower (my personal fav), those are some of my least favorite acid bath songs (which is not dissing them given the fact that Acid Bath changed the course of my life, but they have much better songs)

here are some more

Pagan Love Song

Dr. Seuss is Dead

Diab Soule

Locust Spawning

Jezebel

Bleed Me an Ocean

13 Fingers

Cassie Eats Cockroaches

Hmm, I must say that Scream of the Butterfly is one of my favourite songs by them. I'll agree on The Blue though; I just think it represents the band well.

Nice posts everyone.

Band for today is going to have to be a quick one, as I only have a few moments. I've chosen teutonic power metal band, Angel Dust! I admit I only have one LP by this band, but it's very good so I reckon I'll post what is my, and from what I've heard others', favourite song from it: the fantastic title track, Bleed!

I grow bored of alphabetical order.

Demilich were some awesome death metal. Vocals are so bizarre. And how's this for a song title?:

The Planet that Once Used to Absorb Flesh in Order to Achieve Divinity and Immortality (Suffocated to the Flesh That It Desired...):

A better song:

The Echo (Replacement):

Whoops, forgot about this.

Fuck Dream Theater. Fuck your overrated "progressive metal"; 10% music and 90% wankery. Have some real PROGRESSIVE metal. I give you, Psychotic Waltz!

One of my favourite bands ever, for sure.

Some good songs (all different, so give them all a go):

I Remember

Into the Everflow

A Psychotic Waltz

Butterfly

Freakshow

My Grave

Another Prophet Song

I of the Storm

Northern Lights

Personally, I can't stand Dream Theater either, kinda why I didn't include it in my list.

And yes some of the bands I put in the list are higher profile bands but that was just to follow my A-Z list.

In retrospect, I'm sorry I participated in your thread.

And I leave you with some Quo Vadis

PS
Fuck your "stoner metal" rock music.

Re: Underrated metal. [Re: Idiot]

...I actually wasn't talking to you. I haven't listened to half of the bands you mentioned, and so wouldn't know if they're prog metal in the vein of Dream Theater or not. Dream Theater aren't even a bad band, I just think they're seriously overrated. Here, let me rephrase what I said above to avoid confusion:

"Fuck Dream Theater. Fuck all the overrated "progressive metal" out there; 10% music and 90% wankery. I'm going to post some real PROGRESSIVE metal. I give you, Psychotic Waltz!"

When I say "your", I wasn't referring directly to you, or to anyone in particular; I was just saying (in a bloated, exaggerated manner) that here is a really good progressive metal band that I think surpass the giants of the genre. If you'll notice, I've done a little, exaggerated summary for all the bands I've posted. Seriously man, I actually meant to say nothing against you or your music. Pretend our two posts are independent of each other; I could well have started the topic with my post before, except for "Whoops, forgot about this.", obviously.

I hope you read this, because I honestly didn't mean to say anything offensive towards you. The only person who could take offence from it was a Dream Theater fan, and even then a) I was exaggerating and b) it's just differences in opinion.
