Its totally possible to use logical & rational methods to arrive at non-attachment
I just find affinity with the way of the sages rather than the psychologists
I suppose theres so much phony psychology that takes far too long to get to the point, for my linking

As far as i see seeing 'everything passes' is enough...
Its enough to let go of absolutely everything
Its more of a feeling than a thinking process i feel

Like i feel letting go, i can't think it, but thinking can lead to it
The most rational & logical thing to do is let go of everything, imo
Psychological process leads to it, but in a way, the 'letting go' is letting go of the psychological process itself :wink:

OK then this brings you an I into alignment. I have lately come to the conclusion that spirituality and psychology are really the same thing in their core. I think the Dali Lama would agree with this at least somewhat. He has really worked to bring this recognition about IMO.

Well maybe yes. At the end of the process all labels would drop away and one would simply be what one is.

It's funny and I'm going to admit this. I've difinately at times grouped you into that mystic crowd that I don't have much faith in. Yet... I couldn't help finding agreement with you at times. I've been, I guess waiting for some acknowledgment from you (my insecurities maybe) that we were both seeking something real and good for ourselves. We just were like the right and left hand. :satansmoking: I mean once you get past the fact that I often act like a real asshole.:monkeydance:

I see flashes of understanding
and lots of clarinet music from the clarinets
some strong bass from the bass player
and basically the same music.

I guess the flashes are worth it.

It's true however, I seek relief from my personal death anxiety. I'm trying to find a belief that fits my convoluted psyche. In the spiritual realm I'm attracted to the idea that I am a part of something that is in a better space then the human personality structure with all it's messiness. But it needs to make sense to me and jibe with the ideas I have embraced by my best attempts at logical reasoning. :shrug: I honestly believe I will never know any ultimate truth no matter what I experience within the human experience. It will have to be my guess and one that fits in with the deepest feelings I have.

do you believe this aspect of scripture has been fulfilled?

even if you do not believe its based on divine inspiration its hard to question its accuracy

do you believe it was just a good logical guess?

Sounds like something you just made up. The word 'ambient' has a variety of meanings. If you are refering to the subconscious, then your previous use of this phrase make very little sense. The conciousness does not 'obscure' the subconscious. The subconscious is a subset of the concious mind. It is a storehouse of the mind as I stated earlier. I'm not going to continually repeat myself.

If by mindfulness you actually meant thinking skilfully and thoroughly then I would agree. I think however you mean passive observation of thoughts disconnected from the cognitive process (reasoning) required in thinking. This is what I would refer to as 'mindlessness'.

Demonstrated results? The only scientifically demonstrated results I have seen have been body temperature control and a reduction in blood pressure from tests conducted by Harvard University. I have no problem admitting that relaxation is beneficial and can activate pleasure centres in the brain (I am sure there will be a scientific article you can refer to me about this) and more control of bodily functions can occur when one is relaxed (kinda like when I got to the toilet for a number 2). However I reject completely the notion that the mystics methods are in any way beneficial to ones epistemological or psychological health.

No I do not. Not in the way I think you mean it. I think humans have been superstitious and corrupt from the get go. I think over all human history emotionally we have not changed. It was just as corrupt now as when that was written and before that was written.

As I have often stated, humans tend to think history begins and ends with their personal experience/lifetime. We think its especially bad now because we are in the midst of it. Its not. If anything I would say, because of the progress of science mostly, we are maybe less untruthful with ourselves. But I doubt it.

Since the rest of your post just shows a continued obtuseness in your understanding of terms, I will simply address this part and show you how dead wrong you are about meditation not having positive results.

Here's several links to articles from peer-reviewed publications about meditation:

A general summary of what all those articles point to is that mindfulness meditation leads to lower stress, greater control over cognitive and emotional functions, faster healing from various diseases, and greater overall physical, mental, and emotional well-being.  And just for clarification, they are NOT just "relaxing."  Relaxing is part of it, but decentered focus is also an important aspect of it.

And if the articles aren't enough(you can only get the abstract for them unless you're a subscriber), here's a few lectures on the subject to inform you:








And just in case you're not convinced that it's anything more than "relaxation," here's Ken Wilber using an EEG machine to demonstrate the degree of control an experienced meditator can have over their brain:
