Keep in mind shrooms in a school zone is like speeding through a construction zone. Many do it, not everyone gets caught, but the penalty may be more severe.  :chiefwiggum:

As far as picking in schools goes, it is pretty safe. I have talked to police twice who were curious as to what I was doing, and I talked my way out of any suspicion by actually knowing about mushrooms other than actives. I don't think they thought twice.

Start rambling excitedly about chicken of the woods and King boletes and the cops leave.

Luckily, 9 out of 10 hunts provide no actives. The ones that do, you just go home after picking and then you aren't carrying illegal mushrooms for too long.

I live in a school zone anyway so it matters little....

Always try and carry a few non-actives with you so you can show curious folks (or cops) what you're doing :smile:

My last times out you would have seen me with:

4 white chanterelles in my hands and a pocket full of G.luteofolius.
or
A couple huge C.olivierii in my hand and a pocket full of P.stuntzii

Exactly. I walk around my neighborhood with a basket like a little old lady, and there is always some oddball mushroom in it.

I collect and study them all, which helps when people are curious as to what the fuck you are doing staring at the ground ALL THE TIME.

Hey.

I live in the Bay Area (I know... not exactly PNW, but close enough) and have only been mushroom hunting twice. Didn't find anything the first time, but today I found at least four or five different species (which I will post ID requests of later.)

Anyway, these were at a cemetery, and I think they use fertilizer and pesticides, so I'd rather not eat them even if they are edible.

What kind of places am I looking to visit to look for mushrooms? Hills? Lawns? Parks? I'm just trying to get a scope of areas to check out so I can plan some more hunts!

I would focus on landscaped areas.  Particularly with lots of mulch, wood chips, beauty bark.

Hills, Lawns, and Parks all work.

Pastures, fields, and long grass, are good too.

Landscaping, woodchips, rhodedendron and rose gardens, schools, and police stations are excellent for the woodlovers.

I've found 7-8 species in 1 strip of beauty bark, most inactive but fun finds, though I was under the impression that cyans specifically didn't grow in it, though many others do. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

They would have to sit on considerably more then a soft Amanita.
Though I have come across many Amanitas in the last few days

I just don't know what to do with em :confused:
I suppose I could donate to a scientific research campaign to study the effects of Amanita seepage vs. absorbancy of bodily cavities and orifices(such as the anus.
Say Twiztidsage, For this experiment we're gonna need some volenteers  :naughty:
