so little to know
    #11057177 -

I made a comment on another thread that there are more bacteria in our bodies then our actual cell count. We are host to more alien life then our own. I stated that if we realized the implications of this we could no longer believe our own proclaimed self important specialness.

The idea of who we are, the personality structure is such a narrow band on the spectrum of processes going on in our physical bodies. We are almost completley unaware of this life going on.

It seems obvious and self evident that our personality is nothing special in the sense that it makes us more important than the rest of the life forms on this planet. It's all the same process and we are only a tiny part of that ongoing process. It wasn't created to just for our benefit.

Ya think?

You seem like you want to convince yourself this statement is true.

Terrific debate style.:monkeydance: Now how about addressing the subject, if you can.

What is there to debate but the obvious reflection of your beliefs in your writing?

Do you really not understand how to debate a topic?

So the symbiotic nature we share with many other organisms within us makes us not so special. I'll let the quantum physicists know that we are not special after my coffee break.

So now that science has given us a glimpse of this bacterial world, we are liberated!

I think specialness as an egoic desire, is what you're pointing to, and I agree. We cannot be special because we are all the same at the core. But, we can do special things. For instance, I once wittnessed a person puke up an almost whole french fry from their nose.

On a more serious note, although we are not special, we may have special qualities.

On an even more serious note, perhaps we already are what we would like to be if we were special. Come on... can't we all be special? I mean... I feel special feelings sometimes.

why there is reality and patterned, law-like consistency at all, rather than noise or non-reality is not a question physics answers. It's a question physics presupposes an answer to in order to provide other answers.

A while ago I realized the forces that drive my thought processes and personality (my ego, as it were) are the very same forces of equilibrium that cause a leaf to fall from a tree, bubbles to rise in liquid, and the wind to blow.

I am a reaction.
