Stalled Jars? Don't think it's contam or wetspot
    #10946142 -

Hey Fellas,

Wondering if anyone can take a look at the below photos and give me a thought.

These were knocked up approx 3 - 4 weeks ago and reached this point about 3 or 4 days ago and don't seem to be getting anywhere. A day and a half ago I flipped the jars over and knocked the cakes off the bottom to see if it would help and I didn't see a noticeable difference.

I have marked lines on the jar tonight with a sharpie to know if they are growing for sure, but thought I would get everyone's input anyway.

This is the top of one of the jars -

This is the side of the same jar.

This is the top of the other jar - And the only remaining uncolonized area in that jar.

Any thoughts are welcome!

Thanks

Thats what I figured. Maybe since they are so close to being colonized, I am being impatient - just seems very slow on these small spots.

Also I forgot to add that the temp is generally between 76 and 84 where they are kept.

However the last two days I have been sure to keep them between 79 and 84.

Thanks for the reply mate.

Regarding gas exchange - I did not flip the lids before PC'ing like I should have.

(The rubber side is down as it normally would be)

There is a dry verm layer and 2 nocced holes that are not covered, then obviously, the foil layer there.

I work nights so I generally check them when I get home in the mornin. I am hoping for just a bit off reassuring growth beyond my black sharpie lines. If not - I will try removing that foil.

Thanks mate.

I dunno, looks like bacterial contam (wet spot) to me... at least on the second pic.  Give it a few more day and see if there is any progress...

the second one looks like a contam i had. the other ones look fine. But im not sure so just keep waiting.

also if the bottom of the jars dont colonize just flip them and give them a good smack to loosen up the substrate on the bottom.

Water drops are normal, just condensation as the mycelium eats the substrate.

As far as those jars, they look a bit wet--my advice is go a little drier in your cake mixes and load fluffy (don't pack) in the jars.  Take that foil off, as it is blocking gas exchange.  As far as the jar lids, seal-side down is fine (as long as you have inoculation holes).  Good luck!

thats a sign of bacteria, when you see the mycelium stop then form a solid line as if it ran up against an invisible wall.

Now that you have flipped give it a few days. If its not moved its not right.

But it looks like bacterial contam to me, ive had a jar form that same solid line and not move any further.

Take the foil off!  If you have flipped the jars don't flip them again,  your dry verm is now wet and will cause contams.
Your jars need to breath,  but it does look like bacteria unless your jars where too wet.

same thing happened, i heard it may be due to wshat site you purchased your mulit-spore syringe from. the stalled ones i saw where from spores101, and i did read a thread on here where someone mentioned that using that website made his jars not even take, he had like 5 out of 24 even take at all.

Spores were from Spore101.

Anyhow, wanted to give you cats an update.

I have turned the jars over and smacked them down. Took off the foil and unscrewed the lid a quarter turn - not off - just loose.

Results: Mycelium is slowly moving forward.

I don't know what caused it but where the lines were drawn at the uncolonized area - the Myc really bulked up and became fluffy like it had hit a "wall".

Now, the fluffy built up "wall" is converging on new territory.

I think we Myc is charging forward to win the battle - which rocks.

Thanks for all the help guys. I am gonna give it another couple days and see how far we get.
