 Can closed jars get contams?

Let's say you've got some PF jars all sealed up, waiting to colonize. Can these cakes become contaminated at this point, or does most contamination happen before this stage?

anythings possible.... if the contam entered at some previous point, it can germinate... yes. You should be ok as long as you were as sterile as possible UP to this point... have a good 'verm' barrier in the jars... and dont 'tilt' them when you pick them up to check progress. But YES they can become contaminated. I always used to keep them in the origional canning jar box with the lid closed during this period.

No his advice was fine, but nowadays we don't even allow anonymous replies in mush cult. He'd never have had the convenience of being able to hide his identity just to answer a simple question, which is unnecessary anyway. Would be funny if it was somebody who still posts here.
