Can closed jars get contams?
    #573541 -

Let's say you've got some PF jars all sealed up, waiting to colonize. Can these cakes become contaminated at this point, or does most contamination happen before this stage?

THANKS!

anythings possible.... if the contam entered at some previous point, it can germinate... yes. You should be ok as long as you were as sterile as possible UP to this point... have a good 'verm' barrier in the jars... and dont 'tilt' them when you pick them up to check progress. But YES they can become contaminated. I always used to keep them in the origional canning jar box with the lid closed during this period.

Dunno what homeboy from 14 years ago would've done without your vote of confidence.  Oooh he's been on recently, I hope he comes and says a few words, that'd be stellar.

Thanks guys!  I appreciate you confirming that the advice that the anonymous gentleman gave me was correct.  Unfortunately, I've been waiting for over 14 years and now I have contams.

Let's have a mod de-anonymize that fella and see who thought giving advice on PF tek 14 years ago was srs  business.

  Thanks for bumping.  I love discovering long lost threads like this one.  I didn't respond to the guy, so I can only assume that I forgot that I had made it even back then!  And that was probably because of the ganja, so we've come full circle.

Did you think his advice wasn't good?

No his advice was fine, but nowadays we don't even allow anonymous replies in mush cult.  He'd never have had the convenience of being able to hide his identity just to answer a simple question, which is unnecessary anyway.  Would be funny if it was somebody who still posts here.
