Stalled bags?
    #987601 - 10/23/02 07:41 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

I've got four mycobags that are in various stages of being 1/5 to 1/2 colonized, but it seems as if they've all stalled, no new colonization in at least a week and a half. What can I do?

I've been looking through old threads but they're all about stalled jars and everyone just says to flip the jars, I don't think flipping the bags would help in this case because a lot of the uncolonized area is on the top anyways. By the way I had the bags sitting on top of a heat pad on medium/high before, I recently turned the heat down to low to see if that would help but so far it hasn't.

Is there any condensation on the sides of the bag? Have you tried to mix up the mycelium throughout the bag?

yes, there's condensation on the inside of the bag. No I haven't mixed up the substrate, should I?

Well if there's condensation, then there's still moisture in there, and your good. I suggest you massage the mycelium around the bag to help spread it out.

Massage those motherhumpers. Ive had some stall, man, then i read about massaging, er, the bags and literally two days later...SHAZAAM!!

Recommend the same treatment for significant others when they stall...

it's hard to describe. What you don't want to do is get the mycelium into your fist, and then squeeze as hard as you can, that will crush the mycelium. Just gently break it up, and then mix it around in the bag, making sure it's evenly distributed. I also suggest unrolling the top portion of the bag, and then shaking it all around.
