Where you are sitting right now is fine for lighting.
EDIT: Flush means pretty much the same thing as a harvest and lasts a few days.

So for flushing, i've heard that you harvest, then spray with water... does this make a second crop of shrooms appear? :O! so i leave the mycelium (sp?) in the bag after harvesting... also i am planning to do this in a nice 85 degree F room thats humid, but just on a shelf, most people keep them in boxes, is there a reason?

No the fruiting stage should take place in temps of low to mid 70s like room temperature. And flush is when the mushrooms grow. Read the FAQ and you will find many of your questions answered. If you need any other help jsut come back.

my first myco-bag is still spreading mycelium, but i'll try to give as much info as i can. Inject near the side of the bag on each side 1cc. Before you inject, be sure to loosen up the substrate. After it is about 25% colonized, break up the mycelium and spread it around in the bag, it speeds it up alot quicker. Any questions or if i need to elaborate anymore, lemme know.

why do you guys grow shrooms and pay like 15 bux a gab, 13 bux spore, so like 30 bucks for a quarter ounce result? i can buy a 1/4 for 40 and it doesn't take months and get possibly infected... i'm just bummed now about my mycobag

I have gotten about 50 grams dry in 5 flushes, and there still might be another flush coming. maybe I can get 2 ounces by next flush. So taking that into account, that was about 1.76 ounces for about $30, not mention the growing experience gained with in the time. I also get this happy feeling that my months of hardwork and waiting has paid off.

do you get knowledge, a project, spore prints, the fun of doing something yourself? I don't think so. Sometimes mushrooms are about more than getting fucked up.

A flush is the simultaneous maturation of mushrooms.
Once exposed to light (really any light), you will get pins, then fruits.
Once the fruits mature, you harvest them - this is called harvesting the 1st flush.
Once you have the first flush harvested, you will be able to keep misting to get more fruit. Further flushes.

I grow my own for the great sense of self-satisfaction that I will be experiencing my own, home-grown trip. Oh, and potency is probably much better in your own mushrooms, unless you can buy them fresh. And of course everything else mentioned so far.
They aren't kidding when they say waking up to your first fruits is like being a kid at christmas all over again..

Because you fucked up if your growing for weight/money. A 200 dollar setup can grow pounds. A single syringe can knock up 1000 jars per cc of spores..so if you got a 10 cc syring, thats 10,000 jars. If you do quarts of grain, you can get 20 pounds of WBS for 4 bucks...enough to do 40 quarts (a quart is 4 times the substrate as a half pint). A quart of substrate yeilds you 1-2 ounces easy..so 10,000 quarts from 250-twenty pound bags of WBS..which is 1000 dollars worth of substrate and a 10 dollar syringe which can produce you 10,000-20,000 ounces.
Of course you need some jars and a chamber/humidification all that such stuff so thats where the 200 bucks or whatever comes from.
People dont start like this because you need to do some small grows to get experience. After that you dont need to buy anything again, except substrate.

no one talk to that guy that started this post, hes an idiot and is clearly only growing mushrooms to get " fucked up" and to make money. and you obviously don't know any basics of mushroom growing if it takes 3 people to explain to you what a flush is.

Don't mean to jack your thread, but i had a couple of relevant mycobag q's.
I've got some random mycellium up pretty high on the side of my bag away from the main cake, will this be a problem?
Should I wrap the bottom of the bag with tin foil when it pins?
Thanks

if you have a glove box to work in, make use of that mycelium, take a sterile knife and scrape some off the bag and introduce it to kayro as soon as you open it, it'll get you started on your next batch with a culture... it's one of the things I see as an advantage of bags.
oh, and save the spent substrate for compost for your tomatos

once it's produced a 4 04 5 flushes, the nutritional level is to low to consider reusing for mushrooms, toss it in the compost pile and you may get a few more from there... it does make an excelent fertilizer though.
