Does Spirituality/Introspection also Experience a "Coming and Going"?
    #10807270 -

Is it OK to sometimes steer away from meditation and philosophy? Forgetting yourself and the higher values that have presumably been accumulating seems to be only a natural part of being human, the ebb and flow, if you will, of the individual and their personality.

Spiritual texts and practices, though some don't like to admit it, occasionally present themselves as unwavering absolutes. More specifically, they sometimes present themselves as something that must be permanently integrated into your life.

Is the remembering and forgetting, the caring and uncaring, a natural part of the hide-and-seek-tug-of-war?

In any case, I would say the truth of any message is contingent on the current life situation of the individual. And if the message exists in a relationship with the understanding of the mind, should the mind change, then the message is subject to change.

It's kind of a personal question. It is OK if you are OK with it. It is polarity at work, and as you said, it's about the current life situation IMO. I think that when a person shares their experience, they look for the ultimate within the context of that experience, and for many, it could be a single realization that marks a permanent change, therefore this is the experience that is shared.

However, some will tell you that meaningful meditation and enlightenment for many (most perhaps) is something which is taken in steps, approaching and withdrawing, until perhaps one day there is a marked change. Not everyone is ready. Not everyone will be, hence the concept of reincarnation of a soul into a new body (which I'm not keen on). And it may seem strange to some, but it's worth considering that people may have better things to do than be enlightened. It is better because it is what they chose to do. This is karma. Some may say it is illusion... and I would agree. Yet it is something which has manifested and there will be a response. Not at fault, but still responsible. And we must live with our responses so long as there is karma.

And it can happen that if a person takes a break, and allows the old patterns to emerge, that insight can be gained away from the meditative mindset. Perhaps this is what is/was needed. It's worth considering that meditation is a natural phenomena, and rejecting it as a mindset might not be such a bad idea. But that too, would be within the context of the individuals current life situation.

So yes, though I will take exception to your last paragraph. The realization of the (eternal) self, isn't really a mindset, it's the absence of one. Mindsets are karmic... not that I mind them. They seem quite necessary in the context of a physical existence.

I find that the 'feeling' associated with spiritual work to fade and glow, ebb and flow, from time to time and from mood to mood.

I just keep practicing, and I usually get my mojo back.

If one truly believes, "You are where you are meant to be" then it goes along with the coming and going of spirituality/introspection.

We learn that we should take things in moderation. Maybe it is true of spirituality as well.

This concept exist to me as a work. Similair to this word(Hyde-AHHHHND-zeekuh-tug-of-wahrhrhrh) because it is a concept that has no meaning to me, it is a sound that needs meaning for me to discuss and comment on the last part of the post.

In any case, I would say the truth of any message is contingent on the current life situation of the individual. And if the message exists in a relationship with the understanding of the mind, should the mind change, then the message is subject to change.

If contingent means exactly something like 'in a relationship), then I enjoyed that and it is excellent to know that because then I can be a good boy and communicate better with people so that there is less drama. PWnage that was a sick line.......Dot dot dot. . .

If you know what I'm talking about put your hands up, this is a mental stick up, don't make me put a brick up and make wall.  If I was normal, I would die.

Good bye - End of transmission.

Okay  but why judge on something that is useless to understand my words, fucking shit already...... Jesus Christ?

What comes & goes is not it, the mind gives tremendous insights & blissfull feelings which we label as 'it' then seek to repeat the coming & going experience of bliss
This is our ego giving more attachments to hook into, it can even seem the grandest moment of spiritual union, but its still more food for attachment, if total freedom is whats sought after then these experience have to be rejected as passing flashes so irrelevant

What Is, Truth, doesn't come or go

For something to be Real it must be eternal & permanent, its very frustrating for the mind to accept this because the mind wants to acheive spirituality, how can something eternal be acheived?

Is 'that which is' something attainable? Or it is already so?

All efforts to acheive are performed with the ego, the ego must perish for the intellect to reflect the eternal, when effort ceases then what is, is revealed

:peace:

What silly nonsense. The ego is an integral part of the human primate brain structure/function. Without it you could not navigate this reality. In other words you would cease to exist.

I don't feel i navigate this reality

You may think that i control myself typing this post, but i dont have a choice about it, i either feel compelled to respond or not, the content of what i reply comes from what i effortlessly carry as knowledge in my mind, 'i' don't do anything,
first thoughts move, compell & cause an action to happen, but what have 'i' actually done? a movement happened in me, which caused other movements to happen, but i haven't moved

Ceasing to exist as the ego is the greatest, or just seeing you are not defined by the ego, then ego plays out, but your not sucked into it, you stand back & watch your life like a nature documentary

IS this a practice that leads to this perspective, or is it a realization?

No practice necessary, any practice is another movement
So you don't pick up practice, if the goal is the Self, what movement leads to it?

Inquiring like this you can say is a movement itself, but what is aware of that movement? Is that awareness moving?

The one that 'has no clue', is just an appearance in your awareness, if you felt you had a clue, then that equally would just be another appearance in awareness

Awareness isn't pointing to something we have to 'get', its pointing to what we effortlessly are, all movements happen in the Self, thoughts beleif disbeleif trust faith doubt confusion all happen in the Self, but the Self is never held in any of them

ive read under 12 books the whole way through in my whole life (excluding kiddie stuff)
3 of those books were by ramana maharshi, tbh they were the only ones worth reading

the Self is the only thing worth knowing as its everything
you can't know the Self by reading books
thats what he said, so i looked into it...

This speaks volumes about you. When I was a kid they told us that only the bible or christian literature is worthwhile not to mention all the literature you have never exposed yourself to. Too bad for you I guess, whatever you like to tell yourself.

Do you have any I idea how many people go spouting off this shit after they read it and post it on silly forums like this? Shit, I did it myself back in the day.

I like all of the unique responses, guys!

I will use linguistic semantics here in the most general understanding; overly dissecting the pronouns in language ends up hampering the explanation. I've complained about the fragility of words in previous posts.

As it seems to me, the self, as a continuous and seamless movement of "I", is a composite and transient phenomenon. It is an integration of non-self elements. We, out of our interdependence with these non-self elements, exist only in relationship (we "inter-are" to use Thich Nhat Hahn's word).

But, again in my opinion, after deeper meditation one begins to break apart and see through those very relationships to understand that even the relationships themselves--as advanced and rational as they cognitively appear to be--actually only exit as illusion: still Maya's elusive dancing that exists in the mind. The ultimate reality, the ultimate truth, the ultimate experience, however you wish to creatively phrase it... is oneness.

Quote:
The words of Sages are alive with freshness

To me, while cultivating awareness, a neat realization that begins to emerge is that even fools and rocks are "sages". All the elucidation that occurs, and the breaking down of the sense of the world as 'other', can be brought about through a variety of means. I think it is more common to come across spiritual realization in average, every day packages. Like the adage goes, there is something to be learned from everything. And the trick is to see that the mundane is the everything. Samsara is Nirvana. A pretty radical view that might get you shot in your local Sangha. Ok, maybe not shot.

It is inspiring for me to think that although communication--in all of its many forms--physically introduces new sound waves and symbolic arrangement of ink, it never comes and takes a seat in your mind. There is no empty void or gaps that are awaiting puzzle pieces to be come along and offer itself as filler material at the right moment. The building material, if you will, for great spiritual understanding is already there. Our pre-wiring IS the spiritual tabula rasa. Mind, like brain (using the neuroplasticity metaphor), is fluid and malleable. So the blueprints and potentials are already in place.

Does this make sense?
