single payer only healthcare
    #10798165 -

anyone else been following this story as it's evolved over the past 24 hours on drudge report?

yesterday afternoon breitbart posted a video with several clips edited together showing obama explaining how he wanted to eliminate private insurance with his universal single payer health care system.

breitbart original

the breitbart comments section exploded, and it got so much attention that the white house even posted a response.

here

and here

the white house spin doctors attempted to defame drudge, and said the clips were taken very out of context. they even came up with a bogus video of some white house exec showing how she could pull clips from his youtube speeches to show obama saying things he never really meant.

so what did breitbart and drudge respond with? they posted the unedited video. i wonder how the white house is going to try to spin this shit?

unedited

Hehehehehe.  They're also trying to deny taxing the middle class but anybody who looks at the budget knows that at the spending level now a 100% tax on the so called wealthy wouldn't balance the budget.

What Obama wanted to do during the election campaign is not the same as what Obama is trying to do now. The current bill does not eliminate private insurance. What's the point getting up in arms about a non-existent bill?

This is another case of the Right making up stories so they can scare themselves.

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care.  These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation.  Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

here's the thing: how can private insurance operate when going up against government competition like this? the government does not have to make a profit. if they need additional funding for something, they can just dig deeper into the citizen's pockets. private insurance will HAVE to charge more, because at the end of the day, they are still in it for the money.

Oh, we're supposed to feel sorry for the poor, suffering health insurance giants? Come on. It's their problem if they can't compete. If government health insurance is the bureaucratic nightmare people are making it out to be, then private insurers won't have any trouble attracting customers, right?

no one can compete with the government. what these health insurance companies have done was completely within the laws that the government created in the first place. and it's not like all insurance is being weaned out. it's just healthcare.

how is that fair to the companies? maybe the CEO's will come out of it just fine, but how about the employees?

i don't disagree that most health insurance companies are shitty and will take advantage of you if they can. what gives the government the right to take them down though?

Tell that to all the health insurance companies in Australia. They seem to do quite well. They are more expensive than the government but they claim to provide better service. As I said before, if government health insurance is so bad then they'll easily be able to compete on quality, right? Or are you concerned that people might discover the horrible truth: that government-provided health insurance is quite adequate for their needs, and a lot cheaper?

And I get all of that tax money that would have gone to my government insurance to help pay for my private insurance, correct?  Not likely... so for private insurance, I have to pay twice, once for the government insurance that I don't get and once for the private insurance that I do get...

In Australia you get a tax rebate if you choose private insurance. Not sure if the US plan has a similar provision. In any case, how much is the US plan going to increase your tax by?

depends on your tax bracket. middle class will probably see a small increase, while the upper echelon will be hit hard. the poor people, who it benefits most, most likely won't see any increase. i can't say for sure what the rates will be. does anyone know if that information will be available to the public before the bill is passed?

How much is "hard"? I'm curious to see what the impact will actually be. IIRC the bill is proposing an increase in health spending by 4.4%. That's not a lot really.

Yes, I'm not doubting that. But I'd still like to know (not necessarily from you, but anyone here who might have the information) - after all the wailing and gnashing of teeth, how much extra tax is it actually going to place on the middle and upper classes?

nope, not in the US, here we pay taxes for health care that most
of us dont or cant receive and if we do receive it as I
mentioned earlier, they seize any assets after death to insure
the money is repaid even though it's already been paid once
