Need a substitute for peptone {Growing Cordyceps}
    #10475601 -

Hi there

I would like to cultivate Cordyceps But could not find one of the ingredients called peptone

Is it possible to make peptone

Is there anything else as a substitute for peptone

Anyone have a different cordyceps formula that could work.

I could not find silkworm pup-pay but using mopani worms[ used as a delicacy by the black people in South Africa]the cordyceps is growing on it.

Thank you
Henry

Hi Henry,
try to read this: http://jb.asm.org/cgi/reprint/50/1/39.pdf

They used asparagine instead of peptone..

Don't need peptone or crickets (although I imagine both work), though you can buy a jar of dried silkworms that you can grind up which works better then their substitute recipe but hey...lots of recipes in there.

Here's a bank of links that I read through...there is 2 in particular in that list that have very specific recipes and methods on how to fruit them (the one fellow in one of the links showing extensive detail on fruiting them). He says their as easy to fruit as Oysters once you have it done once or twice. Have a look through them...
