much smaller. can sometimes be a bit dirtier (i don't really think so, but some people do)

if you do the whole tour you'll get to know most of the kids doing the tour. there's generally a lot of good family, a bunch of tourrats, and some older heads.

definitely my favorite band to see, although i'm missing pretty much the whole thing because of phish this summer.

edit - now that i look back over their tourdates, i may go back out west for the oregon > colorado shows after phish finishes in august, but i don't know if i can handle driving out west and back twice over the course of 2 months.

The ratdog scene is great.

moe. is touring with them for some of the tour so that should make it even better!!

Looking forward to the Highland Bowl show. Outdoors in a beautiful park!!My hometown,...

Sooo,... moe. is playing syracuse on 7/11.  Ratdog in Rochoster 7/12. Wonder if moe. will join them. They have nothing scheduled that day.

i'd go to columbus. it is the same weekend as rothbury (bobby is playing with the dead the night before) so a lot of people wont be there, and they always bring the heat for sleeper shows like that.

plus lifestyles pavilion is a nice little venue.

i don't know how much you've listened to ratdog in recent years (the current lineup has been steady since 2003, with mark karan sitting out for summer/fall 2007 to get chemo and steve kimock temporarily holding his seat), but they sound quite a bit different than the grateful dead (and even quite a bit different than phil and friends), and have quite a few originals/covers that the dead never played.

here are some shows i'd recommend

03/04/2003
9/4/2005
4/6,4/7,4/8/2006
3/8,3/9,3/10/2007
8/11/2008 (w/ steve kimock instead of mark karan)
4/5/2008

obv bunch more on the archive

i actually prefer seeing ratdog over the dead or phil. i've always been a bobby fan, so i've been grateful for all the years of seeing him in small venues. i've seen him in places as small as 300 capacity. you just can't beat that.

hey box of rain: if you're doing the tour, be sure and get up with me for the atlanta shows. moe. + ratdog= :awesome:

yeah i'm completely with you on that.

while the dead in 03 was fun, and 04 not as much, ratdog from 05 to now has been the heat imo.

OP I was at the Charlottesville show too :-) It was quite cool, I could see wanting to go from show to show. What I've heard of ratdog crowds is that it's pretty chill, but not as chill as the Dead.

Hey meams they are going to be in glen allen, which i believe is near Richmond, and that is the second show of the tour,

moephan, yeah man i will be at every show it looks like, i will have tickets for atleast half of them , we should definitely meet up at the show, maybe smoke a bowl or two, that is if you don't mind smoking up with a young-blood

forbiddendonut, that charlottesville show was awesome wasn't it? we probably passed each other in the lot, i was wearing a Grateful Dead Egypt tie-dye shirt, blue jeans and a red bandanna wrapped around my long brown hair, so i really stood out in the crowd

I will be going with my brother, we are hoping to find somebody that will give US ride from the Ohio show and for the rest of the tour, in exchange for gas money and free guitar playing and singing on the road from show to show haha, but i had no problem finding people offering to give me a ride for the rest of the tour, offers i regrettably had to turn down

You were both at the C-ville show too?  I was there aswell.  Completly estatic the entire time - especially St.Stephen>11.
