Cool. I'll check it out as soon as I'm done listening to this album. Right now I'm busy listening to some real music(Tool--Lateralus).

Ok, I'm listening to it, and I have to admit, I actually was kinda digging it until the lyrics kicked in. Still not in the same league as the Doors, Pink Floyd, or Tool, IMO.

I myself never got into the Dead, they always sounded too mellow for my tastes, I guess. Too much like background musak. I admit though, I have not listened to much, and my internet connection at present is making sure it stays that way.

I like more energetic jam musak like Karl Denson, Particle, New Monsoon, Brothers Past, Sound Tribe Sector 9...
Phish was pretty cool, I thought they made great melodies and such, but never saw them live...

Oh and as far as the Doors, they weren't the best musicians but the energy that they conjured was very powerful, I think Jim Morrison was in touch with Reptilians myself...

it seems usualy its trey building to a climactic scream
still cool though

Pretty much the same for me. I mean, there's certain kinds of mellow that I can deal with. Bob Marley mellow sounds good to me, but not the Greatful Dead kind. Also, while I do appreciate some upbeat music(Flaming Lips, Tom Petty, Sublime, etc.), I've always been more drawn to darker music. Someone recently called me a goth, which I never really considered myself to be, but I can see how the fact that I like dark music, black clothing, smoking cloves and painting my nails black could give that impression.

Something I recently got into. Just tried it for the hell of it, and I kinda like it. Think what you want about it. I don't care.

i was on shrooms and wound up chilling with a whole bunch of drunk coked up punk rockers
althoth the night ended up kinda retarted the one thing i took away from it was that hippies punks and goths are all pretty much the same
they feel indefrent twards sociaty and have formed a community around there ideas musicical tastes

cant we all just get along! :gd_icon:   :gd_icon:

Well, like I said, I don't really consider myself a goth(I don't wear fishnets or makeup or anything like that, and I've only recently started getting into industrial music). But then again, most "goths" I've met don't consider themselves goths either. And if goths and punks seem similar, it's probably because the goth movement branched off from the punk movement in the 80's.

The Dead were always for flower power, hippie dippy love shit?

In the words of Bob Wier "we wern't into peace and love, well mabye love, but definitly not peace".
They were about music and communion through it. Peace and love were all byproducts of what was going on with their music scene.

The Dead didn't explore the dark side? Expand your Dead horizons. Plenty of stuff from the 60's that was dark.
listen to "Death don't have no mercy" and you'll see what I mean. "Barbed wire wipping party"  will send a evil shiver down your spine. In later years they continued to explore the darker side of humanity with songs like 'Me and my Uncle" and "Jack Straw" andf even "Chinadoll".

Jerry seemed to appreciate the dark and light side of things. The reason that he didn't like Morrison or the Doors was becuase he considered them typical LA flash with no substance. Just his opinion. Lot's more people hated Jerry's music then the Doors. If you like it listen to it and if you don't like it don't listen to it. Pretty simple.

Anyway to each his own, especially when it comes to music. The way I see it the more musical diversity out there the better. You don't have to like it all, but I support music in general.

What would life be without song's and sounds.

 I totally agree. I have been to many dark and scary places with the Dead. I always ended up in a place full of light and angels though.
