Why thank you, the lightning while cool just wasn't cutting for me.
I was board earlier and did a large search on Cassidy, images and story's.
Did you know that Cassady later drifted away from Kerouac because he thought he 'made to much of him' in his writings and he felt he could never live up to any ones expectations of what was thought of him, he didn't care for the cukoo image either.
From one website about his death:
Mexico in 1968, Cassady wandered onto a deserted railroad, intending to walk fifteen miles to the next town. He fell asleep on the way, wearing only a t-shirt and jeans. It was a cold rainy night, and Cassady was found beside the tracks the next morning. He was in a coma, and died in a hospital later that day. The rumor is Cassady's last words were "Sixty-Four Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty-Eight". This was supposedly how many railroad ties he had couted before his death.
I knew he died along those railroad tracks but hadn't heard this version. I doubt it's accurate but who knows?

cheese is alright, but what's with the phish knocking?
phish is a great band, I always have a good time when I see them. I doubt that we will see a sceen like with the early days of the dead. Those things don't just happen, it takes a mix of attitudes and the times.

You should probably listen to Adom. He's been around.
As for the Dead's paradise in a parking lot rising again your Dead wrong. I came into the Dead when the scene was pristine and pure. I also saw it destroyed. You obviously didn't see any of this.
The energy will continue, but in a new smaller level. If you think that there will be another thing like the Dead then you are not seeing the big picture. The Dead did something very important that could only be done by them. The next phase is going to be different. There are other great bands and scenes out there, but they are different and need to be to survive.
The Dead planted 30 years worth of seeds that continue to flourish and grow. Instead of making uninformed statements open your eyes and see the big picture.

That's cool Adom I knew he died like that but I didn't know those were his last words. It's cool from Long Strange Trip when MnNalley talks about how Weir came up with the lyrics:
The bus came by and I got on That's when it all began It was cowboy Neal......
He supposedly wrote those moments before hearing about Cassady's death, or so the story goes.
And gdman, I don't understand all the Phish knocking lately. They're so fucking talanted. I'll see them any time they come near me. I'll choose Phish over SCI most any day.

Hey man just wanna say I used to knock classical (I put it in the same category as gangsta rap, corporate rap, country) but one night while rollin (white buddhas from 2001) put on some mozart followed by the beethoven's 5th, then the moonlight sonata. absolutely mindblowin . felt like i was hearing the voice of god as music. been kinda a quasi-fan ever since. peace

I've often heard unbelievable orchestra's in my mind after long nights of tripping. I've I always said that was the music you hear upon entering heaven.
One night during my 5th or 6th acid trip with a kid I had huge differences with in high school. Probably the most amazing musician I know personally. It was the first time we met on a personal basis. We decided to dose with the guy who thought we had to meet now that I'd under went great change. We spent the night together tripping hard I introduced him to Phish and WSP and the second generation of 'jam' music. It was a night like forever and it blossomed into one of my lifes greatest friendships. After we had spent 8 some hours together and the sun was back out we went our seperate ways, not to talk about the night again for years. Well after our departure and many years we discussed the night. We both heard music that as we described it to each other sounded very similar and it made me a permanit classical music fan.

chinacat- i can't swallow what you said. thats the honest truth. i don't know if its a band or an idea that will last the next thirty years, but something is bound to take over. it will not end, and not because of LSD. i know you're a person who believes strongly in lsd. though i don't believe it made the grateful dead what they are, or will be. tell me where i am wrong.
would the grateful dead be the same without LSD? that is my question to you. i know you think i am sketchy, and i am. but its a legit question.
the gratefuldead are great, i listen to their creations everyday. and their music can bring me to tears. sober as sin. thats what makes them great.
but that can't be the end, nor can they have planted a seed.
if they had planted a seed, they are the patriarch, or something the like. i don't care what time they came from, or the history they have.
it is all more than jerry garcia, the grateful dead, and the parking lot. you know it has to be.
chinacat- not to get too personal- which this is- but what are you children to do? what should they do? your children have come before mine. though i am young, and am naive, i want to know: what do you think is left for the next generation?

SCI puts on a pretty good show. I saw them a couple times over the last year. Musically, I would choose the dead, or phish over them. I like more of the 'spacey' jam sound moreso then the bluegrass influenced jam, know what I mean? Hard to explain I guess
As far as the lot scene... I've done a lot of partying at every SCI show I've been to.. sorry to say Definately not the caliber of a dead lot, but not as lame as the usual phish 'weed treats, hash, chocolates' scene. Doesnt seem to be much of a caravan, met mostly local NE USA tourers. They were cheesey though. Real good times, very generous with their food, and drugs. As am I Good family vibes there. But as I said, seemed to be the local scene. Not sure where SCI is from..
