I hope you can see how this attitude is causing a distortion in the message leading to the exact opposite what the message was originally aiming for..


The main purpose of all things is God's glory.  Man can not convert his own personality since he is born dead in sin and is spiritually dead.  This is why the new birth is needed.  The Word is not a self-help book recipe.  Man has no ability to help himself at all.

Explain to me how I was born dead in sin and am spiritually dead.  If I was a christian I would be spiritually dead, it would feel like handcuffs on my soul.

The paradigm of holiness through surrender is used in many cults. It is instrumental in preventing the believers and non-believers from being able to share the same perspective. The model is simple; the concept is defined to be true only through faith. The experience is self-reinforcing.

Personally, I like to analyze it as a hypnotic phenomenon. I am an anti-fundamentalist, so I will refuse the temptation of any absolute ideology. Through my deeper psychological experiences (such as psychedelics, meditation, and hypnosis) I have come to the understanding of truth and belief as the same entity.



Induction of truth can happen on at least two ends of a spectrum; open hypnosis or closed hypnosis.

Open hypnosis is acceptance of a truth through experiential affirmation as well as faith. Scientific principals such as F=MA are examples of open hypnotic truths because they will be held in place with faith while untested but may be tested in times of doubt.

Closed hypnosis is truth induced and held through faith alone. Closed hypnotic truths may not be tested through pure experiential experience; the world being flat is an example of this. We knew it was true for several hundred years that the Earth was flat.

The interesting part is that there can be no perfect certainty as to which is which- those who believe simply believe. The truth must always be seen as true (the mind is easily bent to mistake affirmation of faith for the testing of it). Human social structures make the lines even more blurred because humans indulge each other by affirming faith for each other.



The most interesting thing about Jesus, IMO, is that he seemed to want to spread awareness through open hypnosis. Unfortunately the church crucified him and took advantage of some of his more powerful philosophies in their closed hypnotic model. :frown: It's ironic that the Christians were the ones who defeated the philosophies Jesus brought us.
