Trout and Pier Fishing

Ok guys. Whats the best way to set your line up for Trout as well with Pier fishing. I realize these 2 types are very diffrent and wish to know the best method for both. I have an Ocean pole and im gonna buy a smaller pole later on for the trout.

Any tips, Tricks, bait, and most importantly, setting of the line advice you can offer? Ive googled this buy its taken me to a bunch of sites trying to sell me something, or fish stories :lol:

A. What's the deal with the random capitalization?
B. You'll have to be more specific, there are at least two major generalizations of trout (freshwater in small brooks and saltwater trout in large expanses) and pier fishing can vary across depending on the coast.
