I found a used merc 15 hp outboard...
that is only a few years old and real clean.
For $800 which is a really good deal.
Maybe I can scrape that much $$$ up this week.
The only bad part of being retired is not having extra $$$.

I bought the used merc 15 hp outboard...

for $700

The Carb was fouled from sitting for 4 years...
the motor is 5 years old and only has about 20 hours on it.

The motor looked really clean so I bought it anyway.

Put the fucker in the outboard shop and had them rebuild the carb...

that cost $327.00 and a week of fishing time.

Then the guy at the outboard place told me when I picked it up...
that the throttle cables were sticking really bad and that I might wanna replace them this winter after Salmon season.

So I take the motor home and put it in the test barrel and run it...
and it purrs like a kitten.
So I'm pretty happy...
then I put it into forward and ran it for a couple minutes.
Then put it into neutral and shifted into reverse and ran it for a few minutes.
Then went to put it back into neutral again and the fucking throttle cables both broke!~

At least I didn't break down in the middle of Lake Washington.
That would have sucked!~

Not even 30 minutes after the throttle cable broke...
I get a phone call from the guy that sold me the outboard motor.
He called to see how things were with the motor.
I told him that the carb rebuild cost me alot of money and that the throttle cable had just broke.
So he figgured that I wasn't very happy with him...
and he offered to give me 2 downriggers and a couple salmon nets.
(I went up the next day and got them from him)

So I take the fucking motor back to the outboard repair shop the next day...
and they order the parts.
I tell them to expedite the parts next day delivery!~
So I won't miss the whole Sockeye season on Lake Washington.
And the repair guy promises me to start on my motor as soon as they get the parts...ahead of the other motors that they are working on.
So that was pretty good service!~

So I just got a call a few minutes ago that the motor is fixed...
and I'm going down to get it in a few minutes.

2 days left of Sockeye fishing in Lake Washington...
and 2 weeks left of King Salmon fishing in Elliot Bay.

I went down to the Cedar River yesterday to see if any of the Sockeye are going up the river yet...
and they aren't...the water level is too low still.
So I should be able to get a few Sockeye tomorrow morning.

I also went down to the Atlantic City Boat Launch yesterday to check out the numbers on Sockeye for the day... 1.1 Sockeye per person according to the gal taking down the numbers for the State. They actually has fish counters at every boat launch in the Area!~

So hopefully I will be posting some Sockeye pictures tomorrow.

lolzz

and hopefully my 15 hp Merc will last at least through one day of fishing!~

:smirk:

tight lines!~

A boat is a hole in the water you throw money into.

Good luck.  Even money on you getting home in reverse the whole way.

That battery will be dead from making frozen margaritas.
Yeah, that's right, I've been fishing before and I know about resource allocation on the high seas. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. When you find a woman who knows what a man's gotta do you marry her. When you find a woman who does what a man's gotta do, you get a DNA test.

I lost a 30 somethin pound Chinook(King Salmon) the next day in Elliot Bay...
it hit my rod like a ton of bricks.
Bent the rod all the way down into the water....
30 pound Salmon rod!~

I had it about 30 feet from the boat and it got off!~

:frown:

I'm going back out after Chinook on Friday morning...
hopefully I can hook into a big one!~

My neighbor landed 2 Kings the day before we went out in Elliot Bay...
a 36 pounder and a 38 pounder.

Hopefully I will have a picture of a large Chinook up here on Friday or Saturday.

and troll the East side of Elliot bay and the edge of Todd Shipyard near the mouth of the Duwamish/Green River.

I grew up on th Detroit river and Lake Saint Clair. Been a Muskie fisherman for many years and bass walleye etc.....oh yes and perch with a yearly splash of Salmon. Fishing is great fun and great times.

But I never considered it a sport.....more a pastime and a pleasurable way to fill my freezer
