I caught one fish in my life, at Fungus Lake in BWCA, then ate some mushrooms.

All we have is channel cats around here, and maybe a few little bullheads.

Largest I ever caught was a 39 inch channel cat using slightly rotten chicken liver (i left it out in the sun the day before) back in 2001. One helluva fight he put up. He didn't emerge from the water without kicking and screaming. Cat fishing is kinda taboo among alot of anglers here because it's considered a trash fish like Carp or over-grown suckers, but I don't measure a beautiful landing by the beauty of the fish, rather the beauty of the fight. The harder the fight the fish puts up, the more cosmic respect I give it.

I don't eat catfish, but I'll eat anything that doesn't put up a fight. Anything that fights for its life will be rewarded with my mercy.

Im a casual fisherman. Used to fish alot before i turned 18 a few years ago. now i need to buy a license and cant seem to get out on the water enough to justify buying one. i fish for lil things at my parents cottage, lil cats and rock bass etc. Id like to get into fly fishing once i have the time and money though. Seems such a calming art.

Fly fishing is interesting, it's more strategic than most types of angling. I've gone ice fishing once, but I was paranoid that the ice would break the whole time so I didn't really enjoy it.

I love cat fishing, chicken livers are good but I got one for you. Find a river clam open it up and let it sit in the sun for a day or two and you will have a bait that they just can not get enough of and they will have one hell of a time getting it off of that hook. I grew up on the Miss and there is some nice cats in there. Biggest I ever caught was a 28.3 lb flat head. Have any of you guys ever used diddy poles or trot lines to fish

It seems every state now has aquote fishing season. Since I have moved to MN, I have never seen so many rules on the time and size of the fish in my life. One other thing with this state is most people here do walleye and such, cat fishing is the smallest group of fishermen, wich has its pros, not many fighting for those good spots(lol)

hey if nothing else carp will give one hell of a fight(lol), bonus is that there is a guy here that can pickle them and they taste just like pickled herring. I think it has alot to do with the pickling juice he uses, dont care it is good, and then there is always the good old smoke them way too.

I don't fish as much as I'd like to anymore. My dad lives on the water, and I moved away. But I did most of my fishing when he owned a boat. That is one thing my dad and I can always do to bond, grab a pole and go fishin', but I'm not overly thrilled about baiting my own hook anymore . LOL

lmfao

its not that small.

we were fishing for Salmon the past few years in Puget Sound in a 9' inflatable...
and you do get dragged around in that!~
lolzz

I'm getting a 15 horse Merc outboard for it this month...
it should be fine for Puget Sound, Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish.

I already have a good size electric motor for it for the smaller lakes.

You should of seen me and my hillbilly cousins being drug around on the tallahalie river in Mississippi by a 18 pound flathead in a canoe. Eventually the damn fish wrapped itself around a log and my cousin jumped in and got it bare handed.

heres one for Sucky...

RR an I went to Rattlesnake Lake this morning.

I caught 2 planters then hooked into a 3 to 4 lb. Triploid.

We saw an Eagle up in a tree above us...checking out the fishing.

and we found 3 Eagle feathers floating in the Lake.
I'll give them to my girl friend she is Native American and will be very happy that I found her some.

PSP is a paint program for the computer...Paint Shop Pro.

I didn't want anyone to be able to read the numbers on RR's plane.

I'm not sure about $$$ value.

Maybe RR will stumble in here and tell you.

I know he told me how much it cost for the engine to be replaced on it...
and that was alot!~

I'm heading out to go fishing this morning...

and hopefully I will have some pictures for you guys later today.

Fishing report...June 7th, 2006

Got on the water late (8:30 am) because one of my other fishing buddy SteveO couldn't stay off the toilet.
lolzz

Poor bastard had to go ashore around 11 am to leave some more poo in the out house...
must have been the Mexican food from the night before.
:smirk:

I caught the first trout out of my boat...and it was a Kokanee.
Then caught 2 RB trout before we finnished the first pass on the lake.
Then limited out with my 5 by 10:30 am...and called RR and told him.
SteveO dind't catch anything til I had 7 fish in the boat.
He was a little frustrated.

I caught 9 RB trout and 1 Kokanee for the day.

I took a few pictures of the boat...since it was the maiden voyage.
but didn't bother taking any pictures of the fish since they were all stockers in the 12" to 14" range and not worthy of being photo'd...IMO

I think I'll name my boat...Fish Slayer!~

Hey roadz, let's go hit lost lake or katchess monday or teusday.

The mrs and I are going to go flying today.

I'd love to go up and try to get into Lost Lake on Tuesday or Wednesday bro...
Monday isn't good...Nicole and Jules will be here during the morning.

I quit smoking again...last night.
I'm feeling pretty icky this morning...hopefully I won't be too sickly by Tuesday.
Cold Turky...sucks!~

Did you happen to fly over Lost Lake in the plane with the Mrs.?

I went out fishing with Steve yesterday...at Rattlesnake Lake.
The water is even higher now than it was before.
Some guy that works there said its the highest water level in 10 years.
Guess they are collecting some extra water for the Native American fisheries...
they are going to use the extra water for the (Muckleshoot tribe)hatchery.
If it wasn't for some of the Indian tribes in this State...the salmon fishery would be done for!~
This state needs to learn how to run its fishery like Alaska does.
The State of Washington and the Feds need to do more to bring back the numbers on Steelhead and Salmon!~
6 more Rivers are in the works to be closed to fishing on the West side of the Cascades!~
What they don't realize is that the Salmon would bring money into the State if they spent money to fix the problem...but they lay it off on the Native Americans to solve the problems.

Enough politics on how Washington State is messing up fishery wise...
back to fishin!~

So we started fishing at 6:30 am.
I had 3 or 4 bites in the first troll around the lake...and caught one.
Then they were biting and not taking the gold hot shot.
You could see the pole jump a little from the bite..then they they would let off like they were just mouthing it.
So we switched over to trolling other gear.
I put on the white rooster tail...and nailed another one.
Steve put on a small doger and a fly...and he got 2.

It was pouring down rain...most of the morning.
really nasty weather and we wore rain gear!~

Then the sun came out...for about 40 minutes.
I switched back to the gold hot shot and caught 2 more.
Lost a couple at the boat too...oh well.

Then it started raining cats and dogs...
then it looked like sheets or walls of water coming down.
It was just too nasty to keep fishing!~

So we loaded the boat and headed home.

Steve 2
Road 4

The weather is suppost to clear up by Monday.

I went fishing with RR yesterday...
we went to Lost Lake.
Lost Lake is an Alpine Lake in the Cascade Mountains...
one of my favorite places on Earth!~

The Lake was at least 20 feet deeper than usual...
we had alot of snow this year.

And we usually get into the Lake in May...
after the snow melts.
The snow just melted and its almost July!~
And there still is some snow in places around the lake.

Lost Lake usually...

This year...

This 20 feet of bank fishing was completely gone...under water.
This is my usual honey hole!~

I caught one 18" triploid and a Brookie...this trip

Usually I catch 10 to 20 triploids per trip...reason why this is my favorite lake!~
I'm thinking the water is too cold and the fish are lethargic still.

Couple more weeks or another month and maybe it will pick back up...to it's former glory!~

Went to a tributary off the Yetna river - floated 70 miles, 30 of that turned out to be heavy white water, so the trip turned into more of a float trip than fishing trip. It was definately beautiful and the numbers of fish were high, but the quality lacked a bit. The largest rainbow of the trip was only 22". I caught over 100 fish the second day, but most were in the 12-16" range. Kings were very late this year so we didn't run into them until the last 5 miles of the river.

Good trip all the way around, but I wouldn't do it again. I'd rather catch 2 monsters a day than 300 dinkers.

I'll post a few pics when I get some time today.

Got our two over 14" rainbows and a small brookie at lost lake yesterday. These were a bit bigger than the trout we got last time.

If you went up there from the late 70's through early 90's we might have met. I flew bush operations from Merrill field in everything from Cessna 170's through twin otters. My fav bush plane is still the Beaver, which is an excellent name for a bush plane. There's some awesome grayling fishing in the Eastern part of the state, near Tok. You can also get huge rainbow trout in the lakes of the northern Kenai penninsula, but they only allow float planes on two of them, or at least when I was there.

said fuck the kayak and waded the grassflats right off fort de soto

caught some trout, ladyfish, cats

we didn't have any ice, so we gave the trout to some black dude that had the fryer set up for chicken for his family reunion
if we waited we probably could have gotten some chicken and bbq

Well Salmon season is open in Elliot Bay...
and my outboard boat motor is fucked up!~

I missed the first weekend...
it's only open to fish on Fri, Sat and Sun.
til Aug 20th.

It's some kind of carb problem...
I tore it apart and tried cleaning it and put it back together...
and its still acting up!~

RR is coming over today and we are going to mess with it again...
I didn't pull the jets out of the carb when I cleaned it...
because that sorta scared me to do.
And it could be a float bowl problem.
So we are going to pull the jets out and test the float bowl...today.

I found a used merc 15 hp outboard...
that is only a few years old and real clean.
For $800 which is a really good deal.
Maybe I can scrape that much $$$ up this week.
The only bad part of being retired is not having extra $$$.

Old Fishing story for you Sucky!~

by Wes Haight

and was published in the local paper....many years ago.

Here it is for your enjoyment:

"Years ago when I used to guide on the Skagit River and there was lots of steelhead and the mighty Skagit was number one in the state, I decided one evening to try above the Dalles Bridge, it was a great native steelhead hole. About the third cast out I hooked a fish and I knew I was in trouble. It was so big that at first I thought it was an early King salmon. Well, anyway, after 20-30 minutes of him running up and down the river, my line became hung up in one place. I could pull him in just so far, and it became solid. I was half sick thinking I had a world record fish, when all of a sudden a boat came drifting down. In it were skin divers looking for fishing tackle on stumps, logs, etc. One of them said he would go down and check it out for me. After a few shaky moments he came to the surface and said it was the biggest steelhead he'd ever seen, bigger than a King salmon. I asked what my line was hung up on and he said the fish was inside of an old car body someone had dumped in the river years ago. I then asked him if he could chase the fish out, and he said he'd tried but that every time he got near the car, the steelhead rolled the window up and locked the doors." Wes Haight

lolzz

I hope RR and I can get my motor running...I wanna get some King's!~

I found a used merc 15 hp outboard...
that is only a few years old and real clean.
For $800 which is a really good deal.
Maybe I can scrape that much $$$ up this week.
The only bad part of being retired is not having extra $$$.

I bought the used merc 15 hp outboard...

for $700

The Carb was fouled from sitting for 4 years...
the motor is 5 years old and only has about 20 hours on it.

The motor looked really clean so I bought it anyway.

Put the fucker in the outboard shop and had them rebuild the carb...

that cost $327.00 and a week of fishing time.

Then the guy at the outboard place told me when I picked it up...
that the throttle cables were sticking really bad and that I might wanna replace them this winter after Salmon season.

So I take the motor home and put it in the test barrel and run it...
and it purrs like a kitten.
So I'm pretty happy...
then I put it into forward and ran it for a couple minutes.
Then put it into neutral and shifted into reverse and ran it for a few minutes.
Then went to put it back into neutral again and the fucking throttle cables both broke!~

At least I didn't break down in the middle of Lake Washington.
That would have sucked!~

Not even 30 minutes after the throttle cable broke...
I get a phone call from the guy that sold me the outboard motor.
He called to see how things were with the motor.
I told him that the carb rebuild cost me alot of money and that the throttle cable had just broke.
So he figgured that I wasn't very happy with him...
and he offered to give me 2 downriggers and a couple salmon nets.
(I went up the next day and got them from him)

So I take the fucking motor back to the outboard repair shop the next day...
and they order the parts.
I tell them to expedite the parts next day delivery!~
So I won't miss the whole Sockeye season on Lake Washington.
And the repair guy promises me to start on my motor as soon as they get the parts...ahead of the other motors that they are working on.
So that was pretty good service!~

So I just got a call a few minutes ago that the motor is fixed...
and I'm going down to get it in a few minutes.

2 days left of Sockeye fishing in Lake Washington...
and 2 weeks left of King Salmon fishing in Elliot Bay.

I went down to the Cedar River yesterday to see if any of the Sockeye are going up the river yet...
and they aren't...the water level is too low still.
So I should be able to get a few Sockeye tomorrow morning.

I also went down to the Atlantic City Boat Launch yesterday to check out the numbers on Sockeye for the day... 1.1 Sockeye per person according to the gal taking down the numbers for the State. They actually has fish counters at every boat launch in the Area!~

So hopefully I will be posting some Sockeye pictures tomorrow.

lolzz

and hopefully my 15 hp Merc will last at least through one day of fishing!~

:smirk:

tight lines!~

Yeah, that's right, I've been fishing before and I know about resource allocation on the high seas. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. When you find a woman who knows what a man's gotta do you marry her. When you find a woman who does what a man's gotta do, you get a DNA test.

I grew up on th Detroit river and Lake Saint Clair. Been a Muskie fisherman for many years and bass walleye etc.....oh yes and perch with a yearly splash of Salmon. Fishing is great fun and great times.

But I never considered it a sport.....more a pastime and a pleasurable way to fill my freezer

Steve O is a French/Polish hairy bastard!~

but he has the heart of gold...

he is always there when you need a friend...

and he is always stoned...fucker can smoke some serious weed!~

and he is a great fishing buddy!~

I told a story about him in the Pub a few years ago...

Steve O flipped out when he was in the Army...during the first Desert Storm.

He walked into a lounge in the barracks and unloaded 2 clips from his M-16 into a couch!~
(yeah you heard me right...he shot up a couch)...lolzz

He was taken by MP's to the Base Commander and asked why he did what he did...

Steve O's response..."Well I figgured it was better to shoot the couch than my mother fucking LT. that doesn't know his head from an asshole!~"
***I still chuckle when I think about this***

They gave him a medical discharge from the Military...
Full benifits, $2400 a month for life, medical, dental...basically the works.

So he doesn't have to work...
and he goes fishing with me and a few other friends alot.

He is not the same person that he was before snapping...
he is on medication and really needs to be monitored closely.
And his doctor thinks that his weed smoking is a good thing for him...
since it helps keep him mellow.

Every now and then he has a bad day...
and he flakes out...like not showing up.
or staring at his truck for an hour...which happens quite a bit.
He has gone off on me once...and I didn't talk to him for 2 weeks til he apoligized to me.

But like I said...
He is a great person and a wonderful friend.
And we all(his friends)try to look past his bad moments...
and look at the wonderful person that he truely is.

I love him like a brother...
and he has been there for me during some really rough times in my life!~

he cancelled out on our yearly camping trip at the last minute.

We were suppose to leave tomorrow morning....for 4 days.

He probably needs some fuckin meds!~

I'm sorta pissed off...
but thats how he acts when he trips out!~

He will regret not going...
and you never know...
he might end up showing up while we are up there!~
he has before!~

So I'm taking Jake up to Lost Lake in the morning for 4 days anyway!~

We don't need Steve O to have a good time!~

RR is too busy with making his Videos to go up.

And everyone else is working <--hate that word!~
:smirk:

We should be able to catch some nice Donaldsons, Triploids, Browns, Bull trout...
and I'll take my crawfish pot up to get some crawfish too.

The fish usually average between 2 to 4 pounds each...with a lunker here and there!~

My record for Lost Lake was 19 fish in 2 hours one day...

I'll take some pictures...and post em when I get back home.

see ya in 4 or 5 days...

MAHI-MAHI
Coryphaena hippurus

Mahi-mahi is a Hawaiian word that means "strong-strong" for dolphin fish. This species is found in tropical and subtropical waters throughout the world. Generally, smaller dolphin fish range from 2-5 pounds, while 40-50 pound fish are not uncommon. Dolphin fish have a short life span of three or four years.

Dolphin fish are not to be confused with porpoises, which at times are also called dolphin. Dolphin fish (mahi-mahi) are cold-blooded members of the fish family, while porpoises are mammals and are protected by law. The mahi-mahi is a beautiful fish also known as "dorado". The fish has green and gold flanks that light up with a rainbow of iridescent colors that fade with time. Many retailers will display whole mahi-mahi because they are so striking and to help dispel the myth that they are related to Flipper.

According to Seafood Leader's 1992 Buyers' Guide (March/April issue), mahi-mahi occupy a place at the top of the food chain. They like to consume everything from flying fish to crabs, shrimp, squid, mackerel, and other small fish. At first, most mahi-mahi were a by-catch (incidental catch) in the tuna/swordfish longline fishery. Now they are sough after by commercial fishermen off the Pacific Coast of Latin America, from Peru to Costa Rica; the Ecuadorians have a growing fishery. Recreational anglers also catch mahi-mahi offshore in the Atlantic Ocean from New Jersey to North Carolina and farther south.

CULINARY DESCRIPTION

Mahi-mahi is an exceptionally versatile fish, having firm, white meat and a delicate flavor. Broiled, poached, baked, sautéed, grilled, or pan-fried, mahi-mahi delivers a truly sensational taste. The National Fisheries Institute suggests that you try mahi-mahi as an appetizer. Cut the fish into squares, marinate them in lime juice, and broil them with garlic butter. As a main course, baked mahi-mahi served with a sweet-and-sour sauce is sure to win rave reviews from family and friends. Mahi-mahi is one of those fish that is wonderful just about any way you can think to prepare it -- from the simple to the complex, minimal ingredients to multiple ingredients, subtle to strong flavors. I love to use seafood in traditional meat and poultry dishes, and I know seafood tacos are not new, but made with mahi-mahi, they're great!

I personally like Blackened mahi-mahi the best!~

I've been out fishing the past 2 days for Coho on the Duwamish/Green river...

I'll post some pictures when I get back tonight or tomorrow.

The Indians have the nets out!~
2 nets were strung across the whole river...the 1st day. <--illegal.
I ran one over with my boat and had to cut the net to get loose...
that was a real mess.

I'm headin out the door to go fishing right now...
talk to you later Sucky!~

<`///><

Fish on!~

nice Cutts bro!~

which kind are those?

I don't think that type of cutthroat is around these parts...
maybe in Eastern Washington.

The Snoquamie River has Cuttbows in it now...
cross between Cuttroat and Rainbow trout.

Then most of our lakes and beaver ponds have Silver colored Cutthroats with bright Red marks under the jaw line...
but I'm not sure of their specific name.

Picture of the Indians having a net across the Dawamish River the first day they had nets in the river.
Notice that the net continues after the Orange marker...
the net is suppose to stop at that point.
The fuckers had the net all the way across the river the 1st day!~

This bay is up river near Boeing Plant 2...
this is the last place a barge or ship can turn around in the river going up the River.
We love fishing this bay!~

The Indians have had nets in this bay for the past week now...
so we haven't been able to fish the river at all now.

I heard yesterday that they are pulling the nets soon.

So we might get a couple weeks of fishing in on the river still...
the Coho are running late this year!~

We are fishing Lake Samamish tomorrow morning...
at the mouth of Issaquah Creek.
Chinook and Coho are stacking up getting ready to go up the creek now.
:smirk:

Hopefully we can hook into some large Kings(Chinook) tomorrow...
if we do I'll post some pictures.

Ouchhhh

that had to hurt!~

I talked to a guy last week that caught a couple Kings in the Duwamish out of season...

he got caught and his fines were $1200.00

and they took the 2 fish and all of his fishing gear too!~

I always the the regs before going out to double check that I am at least aware of the fishing regs of that paticular area...

now whether I follow the regs is another story!~
