Anyone have control freak parents?

my parents are seriously control freaks, it is fucking annoying. I appreciate that they still support me and everything, but I can't stand their controlling ways. I am 20 and in college, I hope to figure out a career soon so I can become independent, but having controlling parents kind of sucks.... :heresjohnny:  Anybody relate?

What do you expect, youre 20 yrs old and are still getting support from your parents.

If you want to be treated like an adult, then act like one and support yourself.  Otherwise, having parents pay for your shit is nice but get used to the fact that your basically still a kid.

Ha, I came off as more of an ass than I wanted.  Sorry about that.  Nothing wrong with taking some help (like for school, etc) but of course then your parents will still have control over you.  Becoming financially independent is almost like a rite of passage in american culture to becoming an adult.

Living at home with your parents through college doesn't make you a kid. I'm only 19, and I'm more of an adult than my mother. She acts like a fucking 14 year old school girl. Constantly gossiping and bullshitting. I'm never home, except to sleep. I do most of the shit around here, because my dad left when I was a kid. I do almost all the chores. I cook, I clean, I grocery shop (WITH MY OWN MONEY) and whatnot. I do everything on my own. My mom is never even around, and I'm left to take care of the house. She pays for it, but thats about all.

Maybe its not the same with this dude, but don't assume that makes him still a "kid".

I can relate to you a bit anon 4. My mom just gossips all day, she definitely did not have to work hard to get where she is. Like I said, I really appreciate that my parents support me, it would be nice if they were more chilled and open minded though. I have plenty of 20 year old friends that go to college and live at home.

Unless you absolutely had to, why the hell would anyone live at home with their parents through college?

You have known your parents were controlling and gone to school much further away to escape.

When I was 18 I started establishing my own "Person" if you will very early. My mom is a pretty psychotic Bi Polar bitch at times, and it got to a point where I would leave the house. Its hard to explain But I had to risk

-Being Homeless
-Loosing every item that suddenly becomes "Hers" that she bought for me if I left
-No financial support from her

and I still went through with it. I stayed with my grandma and couch surfed for a while and never caved in to go back to my psycho mother. One day she came to me in Tear's and explained how sorry she was for her behavior and how she is "Still my mother". She paid off my credit card debt as a sign of good faith and things eventually changed for the better.

This definitely doesn't apply to everyone, but if you happen to have a Co-dependent single mother with mental issues this may help you. Your parents need you more than you need them (that was the case for me). Once I figured this out, my mom lost all power and I was allowed to be my own person, with my own opinion, and have my own say with what goes on. My new struggle was no longer dealing with my mother's orders, but trying not to over abuse my power if you will.

I think my mom needs to realize this soon, my dad is still married to her, but spends all his days working and sleeping in our other house, so all my mom has are me and my brothers basically. If she keeps acting bitchy like she always does, she will regret it once me and all my brothers are out of the house. I hardly ever talk to her, but when we do talk it usually is small talk and she tends to be negative or controlling(she likes making pointless suggestions and what not) so I usually avoid her. 

I hope I don't sound whiny because I honestly am not having such a hard time living at home, but I think I will be much happier once I reach that independent stage and live on my own .

yeah, im only 18 and in college.  im not living with them, but my parents are supporting me.  i cant handle being around them for weekends if i go visit..  they just piss me off.  i basically need to be constantly, extremely stoned to deal with their bullshit.
