Is Tool building an amry?
    #957040 - 10/13/02 01:36 PM (21 years, 5 months ago)

I noticed that a lot of the people in my age group on this site have been exposed to the band Tool. Many are influenced by the band enough to incorperate it into their profiles in some way. More importantly, I have noticed that many of us Tool fans seem to be thinking on the same level about the same issues of spirituallity and such. Is listening to Tool doing this to us or is Tool just a band that attracts our types of people? Any theories on this I would love to hear.

Interesting.

I guess I'm trying to figure out what an 'amry' is?

TOOL is an extremely good band that apparently draws "quality" fans, such as the posters on this board.

The thing I really respect about them is that they don't try to advertise their beliefs to attract a "following", rather they encourage you to find your own truth inside yourself, instead of letting others think for you. The things they express in their music have opened my eyes to the possibilities of so many things; I have to say Tool is one of the main reasons I started on the path of the "seeker".... that and hallucinogenic drugs.

the only way you can make music like that is to be as much yourself as you can... i guess that in itself is an unspoken message.
and im sure its quite impossible to impose any beliefs on others when your in that place that they go. its chaos.

ya?

I have a tool that I've used with several willing female companions. However, it doesn't raise an army, only itself.

One reason I think why Tool has attracted such an "army" of intelligent spiritual fans has to do with their evolution as a band. They started out very angry at the way the world is and questioning of authority, culture, religion, etc. This is a very common world view for thinking adolescent males to have, so they attracted these people to their music. As they grew and their music evolved, they turned to more spiritual themes and tried to forge a path outside of conventional societal values, and in doing so brought all their fans along with them and they themselves grew and matured. So I think its both. Tool's music attracts this type of person but they also could be partially responsible for the spiritual evolution of its listeners (myself included).

I like Radiohead a little more than Tool.

Aside from personal tastes, people with certain values and morals will be attracted to different music and bands. ie. young adolecent girls will more likely watch a new Britney Spears video than sit though Tool's Prison Sex. I see shroomites here are beyond meaningless music with no concepts and so are attracted to bands like Tool, Radiohead, and many others which deal with subjects matter more relevent to our life.

Bands like Tool and Creed(although quite different) are addresssing the vast spiritual desert in today's culture. We have collectivly denied a spiritual reality which has left a void.Bands which address this emptyness and provide content usually maintain a devoted following of fans to whom the message is relevant.Beyond that Tool is the Led Zep or Black Sabbath of today, another band will come along and sway a new group with it's "deep meaning" and this disscussion will go on about the "next big thing".All I can say is Tool is cool, but don't be one........Tool army,FEH! not enough organized motivation only adolescent and post adolescent angst, spotted with isolated acts of rebellion and such.Eventually Life itself becomes more "important" than the "message" from a bunch of guys using your angst to gain access to your pocket :wink:BTW I love Tool and most ALL music I just am no longer looking for answers in the lyrics,I learned only I can develop answers that truly fit me not lyrics being sold.Peace WR

I saw them in O-regon and thought they rocked! I had a homespun extract of saint pete and cubies on board and it was a great time. But then I had as good a time on the same trip when I saw POD and Creed Just a different orientation of focus. It's all good!  :grin:WR
Hell I saw Willie Nelson on a pile of cubies and he was the coolest ole fart I'd ever listened to.He had had some of the chocolates hisself and was right with the crowd. Some of what he sang was like a knife cutting into my soul.Am I gonna join the Willie Nelson Army? LOL.Then there was the opera on Pan cyan in excess, holy shit that damn clown could sing, didn't understand a fraeking word but it was a hella show  PEACE WR
