Letter to the Prez (MedMarijuana Raids)

If anyone is interested heres a e-letter to obama regarding the raiding of medical marijuana patients.

On January 22, the Drug Enforcement Administration raided a medical marijuana dispensary in California for the first time since you took office.  During your campaign, you pledged to put an end to this unconscionable practice, saying, "I would not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding medical marijuana users. It's not a good use of our resources."

This raid is only the most recent in a string of nearly 100 raids on medical marijuana dispensaries operating legally under state law. Would you please move swiftly to bring an end to these medical marijuana raids, as you vowed in the campaign?  As president, you could start by appointing new leadership in the DEA and making it clear to the Department of Justice that this practice is no longer acceptable.

Last winter, the American College of Physicians issued an endorsement of medical marijuana, which, along with stating scientific support for marijuana's medical efficacy, pointed out that "a clear discord exists between the scientific community and federal legal and regulatory agencies over the medicinal value of marijuana."

Please help bring our government back in line with the scientific community by ending these raids. No one should suffer criminal penalties simply for using a medicine that works for them.

Don't mean to burst any bubbles or anything, but giving the state of the economy, that probably ranks pretty low on the new administrations priority list right now.

And besides, it's not like he's going to keep any of his campaign promises anyway...he's a rat bastard politician like all the rest of em'. The only difference is, he can deliver a speechwritten by someone else and with the help of teleprompters, exceptionally well...:shrug:

Also this is an economic issue, so you're wrong in two parts.

No matter how broke the government they will always find the money to lock someone up over drugs even if it means letting killers free
our government has gone insane in the (so called )war on drugs

That's funny, cause I didn't see anything in the new BS "stimulus" package about not raiding medical marijuana depot's...but hey at least they thought it was important to spend millions on resoding the mall...

If you can prove he writes all of his own speeches, I'll retract that..but then again you might be right because they were all the same...all talk, no substance...

Agreed on the first statement 100%, and though I have a feeling you are right on the second as well, I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now, though I have very low hopes to be quite honest...

Well no shit he didn't put it in the stimulus package, that's the problem! Doesn't change the fact that legalization is majorly an economic issue. As for the speeches, well here's a Times article entitled How Obama Writes His Speeches

The deal is, no matter what's going on it's always incumbent upon citizens to use their voice.  Yeah it's true, any politician in office is likely a two faced scumbag.  Even so, it's no reason to keep quite.   
Get the word out and let's see what happens.

Of course it is. 

But lets be real here...anyone who thinks Obama and his administration will even consider legalizing drugs in this term is living in some sort of delusional fantasy land...

it has nothing to do with economic stimulus.

he could do it by executive order, i think he will, even if its not a priority, its not like he has to do much to have it stopped.

plus it would be less to fund, doing these ridiculous raids does cost money
