Screw Grains...PF TEK all the way..:logic:
NO serious though..I Love the pf tek and will always do it just to screw around. Its fun as hell and its fun babysitting them when they are fruiting. The problem I have with it is Some of the equipment is useless when you decide to move to grains.Ive spent close to 50 just on the PmP FC and I will never use it if I did decide not to do PF tek anymore.
If you never plan on going bulk then go the PF tek way but if your whole plan is to go bulk then don't waste your money especially if your poor (like I am).IMO
So if your rich do both.

I started with the pf tek and my only drawback was the PC held 8 half pint jars. then I went onto quart jars of rye for bulk and it only held 2 quarts so I usually recommend people buy a big pressure cooker right off the bat. my new PC holds 7 quarts and thats enough for me

buy prints. not syringes.

you could make an easy 10 syringes from a print.
making one should teach you sterile procedure.

It could also result in many contaminated susbtrates.

Keep it simple until you get an understanding on how things work.

If you feel confident and fully understood the techniques, then feel free to delve deeper in. Many people have been successfull. Many have failed. Many have even failed at the pf tek.

Pick your teks and follow them to the T, and dont improvise.

A glovebox will make all the difference.

umm its somewhat extremely easy...
just take a halfpint with tyvek on top and the ring. sterilize and cool.
wipe all over with alchohol.

take your print, and scrape the spores into the water with something flame sterilized like the tip of a knife of crochet needle or paperclip.

then start sucking up with your syringes. flame the tip and cap.

voila...

definately use a glovebox tho.

i mean if you cant make a spore syringe, what goodll you do with other techniques?

Grains (stop calling it WBS people when you are referring to ANY kind of grain spawn preparation) are more complicated in nothing else because:

a) They require a pressure cooker
b) They require making lids
c) There are more procedures involved.

This does not mean grains are hard to prepare, in fact it is quite simple to prepare them but that does not mean PF tek jars are not easier to prepare.

Probably 80% of newbies here are capable of preparing grain spawn successfully on their first try and maybe 70% would even manage spawning it to bulk and not mess it up, but ANYONE can do a PF tek jar, even a 10 year old.

This is, along with the fact they require a lower initial investment if starting from scrap, that we recommend the PF Tek. They are so foolproof anyone can grow succesfully and then move on to the bigger yielding procedures if they decide to.
