enough with the endless questioning...it's all mental masturbation!

I remember when I first started to ask the "deeper" questions of life...around 15 or 16 years old....subsequently when I first started using drugs.

I'm 25 years old now...and it's come to the point where every now and then i will ask myself the same sorts of questions...but still.......have no answer. I can ponder and wonder all I want...but really...it all just leads to a endless spiral.


Recently...I've become less interested in the big/ultimate questions of reality...and more interested in the practical questions concerning my physical and temporal/mental well being.

At the same time though.....i feel as if life has become more bland. not as exciting...or as magical. i feel as if most people are too enthusiastic about things....or are too dramatic. but at the same time...i wish i had that feeling...i want things to be exciting again.

Maybe you just need to make peace with the thought that perhaps you'll never know the answer to those questions. This doesn't mean that the excitement and magic in the world have disappeared, but only that they have disappeared from your own state of being, and that it's only up to you if you want them back or not.

I had the same experience a while ago. It's a sign that you may want to consider reorienting your perspective to put yourself and the present back at the center; switch back to a more practical state of mind. None of us know the answers, but the questions are lovely to ponder when we have fresh experiences to fuel them with. :sun:

The items you mentioned are probably a small percentage of the things people cling to for dear life. For some, it is faith in science. For others, it is Christianity. And for that few on the fringe, it is the alien at the end of the world.

Anyway.

For people who are interested in Shamanic, Pagan, or Animistic traditions, "magical thinking" is a given, but is not primitive and worthless as some would lead one to believe.

We already know Carl Jung updated the language used to describe what the modern "rational" mind has dismissed as "primitive" and "magical", and what they considered "Gods".

Once you have been involved in "magical" things it is hard to go back to a 9 to 5 desk job. I guess if the "magical" things aren't happening it would get boring.

I put that phrase in quotes by the way.

"Magical thinking", to me, is a term that is implied. And what it implies is thought that regards deities, higher truths and powers, other worlds or planes of existences, and ascribes a higher level of meaning to mankind and the earth.

It is a phrase that is used to dismiss that sort of thinking as primitive and trivial with no regards to modern insight and technology.

Is that the same way you would define "magical thinking"?
