It depends on the thief for me, or rather what they're stealing. If it's a ridiculously expensive item, then go for it. Fuck those douche bags for trying to charge you so much. I needed this screw one time at home depot and they were charging like 4 or 5 dollars for it. wtf, a screw should not cost that much money, there was nothing special about it. Yoink.

hardware stores where my largest target... i must have "yoinked" 2k worth of goodies within the past 12 months from my local store, its a shame they're renovating, i can predict camera's and allarms in the near future... it's gona be a challenge

no i can understand this, i hate thieves myself after having my bike broken up and taken away many MANY times...  god do i hate them, i guess thats just karma tho, what goes around comes around

I used to be the biggest clepto! I couldnt walk into a store without stealing something... I once had a list of everything I stole, it was well over 2000 bucks in less than a year!  I would steal from anywhere! My plan of action was different from store to store. some had more workers while others had cameras, its all about finding and making blind-spots :smirk:

What I normally do is if I want an item, I'll take 2 of the item. I would continue to walk around the store while I worked whatever it is out of the package (like condoms taken out of a box) and put it in my pocket or something. Then I would ditch the box in a random isle. I would walk back to the products proper place, and put back the 2nd item so it looks like I didn't want to purchase the item. IF someone sees you grab an item, then walk out without paying for something it looks suspicious, if you put it back, it looks like just that.

More than $13 billion worth of goods are stolen from retailers each year. That's more than $35 million per day.
There are approximately 27 million shoplifters (or 1 in 11 people) in our nation today. More than 10 million people have been caught shoplifting in the last five years.

Shoplifting affects more than the offender. It overburdens the police and the courts, adds to a store's security expenses, costs consumers more for goods, costs communities lost dollars in sales taxes and hurts children and families.

Shoplifters steal from all types of stores including department stores, specialty shops, supermarkets, drug stores, discounters, music stores, convenience stores and thrift shops.

There is no profile of a typical shoplifter. Men and women shoplift about equally as often.

Approximately 25 percent of shoplifters are kids, 75 percent are adults. 55 percent of adult shoplifters say they started shoplifting in their teens.

Many shoplifters buy and steal merchandise in the same visit. Shoplifters commonly steal from $2 to $200 per incident depending upon the type of store and item(s) chosen.

Shoplifting is often not a premeditated crime. 73 percent of adult and 72 percent of juvenile shoplifters don't plan to steal in advance.

89 percent of kids say they know other kids who shoplift. 66 percent say they hang out with those kids.

Shoplifters say they are caught an average of only once in every 48 times they steal. They are turned over to the police 50 percent of the time.

Approximately 3 percent of shoplifters are "professionals" who steal solely for resale or profit as a business. These include drug addicts who steal to feed their habit, hardened professionals who steal as a life-style and international shoplifting gangs who steal for profit as a business. "Professional" shoplifters are responsible for 10 percent of the total dollar losses.

The vast majority of shoplifters are "non-professionals" who steal, not out of criminal intent, financial need or greed but as a response to social and personal pressures in their life.

      The excitement generated from "getting away with it" produces a chemical reaction resulting in what shoplifters describe as an incredible "rush" or "high" feeling. Many shoplifters will tell you that this high is their "true reward," rather than the merchandise itself.

      Drug addicts, who have become addicted to shoplifting, describe shoplifting as equally addicting as drugs.

      57 percent of adults and 33 percent of juveniles say it is hard for them to stop shoplifting even after getting caught.

      Most non-professional shoplifters don't commit other types of crimes. They'll never steal an ashtray from your house and will return to you a $20 bill you may have dropped. Their criminal activity is restricted to shoplifting and therefore, any rehabilitation program should be "offense-specific" for this crime.

Habitual shoplifters steal an average of 1.6 times per week.

With big chain stores, they usually take the inventory discrepancies and take it out of the paychecks of the people who work at the store so the chain doesn't lose any money. My aunt used to work at Nordstroms and she would get really pissed at the end of the year because they would take money out of her paycheck because other people stole shit.

I have a couple shoplifting stories:) This one time I stole a nice knife so I can use it to open and steal more stuff :tongue: When I did this, I accidentally stabbed my hand with the knife and I started bleeding badly! So I had to go the the bathroom and clean up, I even had to go to customer service to get a bandage!

Back when Mini-disc players were the best music players, I snagged 2 of them. IT was funny, they were both in big clear plastic boxes so no one could steal them! so I shoved them under my shirt and took them to the bathroom. I then proceeded to smash the boxes open, which was VERY loud! I took everything out and threw the boxes in the garbage.... As we were leaving the alarm went off, but luckily it goes off all the time so no one even bothered!!!  I walked out like nothing happened.

another time I got away good was when I stole around 10 DVD's :smirk: I turned away from the camera and shoved them in my shirt....  I went to the bathroom and got all the DVD's out so I could fit all them in my pocket, then I threw away all the cases in the bathroom. Even though this was no more than 6 years ago, it was MUCH easier to get away. Nowadays, with the types of cameras they use, it is much more difficult. so be careful!

this is true, i used to get this high while walking out the doors,I was very nervous while passing through the sensors but once you are outside it is a major rush of...  pride? satisfaction?
