I tried it before and I just couldn't pay attention to it.

That's what I see happening.  More than likely I'll lose interest in any specific music I put on. It alwys works like that.  Try watching 2001 and you'll end up banging on a hand drum, try music and end up wandering the yard. Sounds positive overall though, no one has mentioned any intensely devastating personal crises from the experience.  misos makes a good point that one can study any concept in any situation regardless of specifics.  I can probably find better background noise for a death-focused trip.  Somebody mentioned explosions in the sky...

I felt that I could listen to heavier music as long as it was heavy throughout, if that makes sense. I couldn't listen to music that went from chill to intense all the time. Glassjaw was a little too much for me at times, and normally I could never get enough of them. Palumbo just likes to freak out at random times.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

Why has no one mentioned Tool?! I guess they're more on the alternative side of things, but I'd still classify them as metal. They've got trippy time signatures, deep and resonating lyrics, and are all great musicians that create some of the best music to listen & trip to in my opinion.

Neurosis - Given to the Rising!!!

Maybe Minsk - The Ritual Fires of Abandonment, but last time I mushed out to that I blacked out hard.  Probably all the pot.

If you want some serious apocalyptic music, check out Through Silver In Blood by Neurosis as well.  The title lead-off track will put you in a barren wasteland in no time.  Decay, baby!

We are always acting on what has just finished happening. It happened at least 1/30th of a second ago. We think we're in the present, but we aren't. The present we know is only a movie of the past.

And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk ...four times already this year and I used to be over by the window and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and its not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire.

Sunn O))))) ftw!

So atmospheric and dark, it seems like it would provide inspiration but leave you in control.

Fuck yes, good sir.

I'd highly recommend the songs The Serpentine Offering and Mourning Palace by them as well.

(And of course some Emperor if you're into harder black metal.)

You can trip to whatever you like. Just give it a shot and see how it goes. It's good to experiment with different styles and bands on trips. Keeps it from getting stale.
I've listened to Opeth - Orchid on a trip before, which worked wonderfully. Also Mr Bungle - Disco Volante. Can't remember what else at this point in time.
If it doesn't work, you can always change the music, so just have a line up of a whole bunch of different albums.

Man, it depends. I think tripping to tool is always a good idea. I locked myself in my room once and looped No Leaf Clover by Metallica for about 2 hours. Fucking went insane. Had to wake up and learn how to weld the next morning.

Enslaved, Emperor, Satyricon, Darkthrone, Amon Amarth, Summoning, Nokturnal Mortum, ect, ect. Fuck yes.

I'd recommened some good black metal or maybe even some death or thrash for a trip... if you like it sober, why not give it a shot. I listen to metal every day of my life, and almost all of my trips have had extreme metal as the soundtrack- I do listen to it all the time though, so it might be differant for someone who isn't die hard into it. But i'd definatly give it a shot, whats the worth that can happen, you have to turn it off?
