If you're new, make up a bunch of jars and try both. I lean towards crumbling and casing, but it's not as foolproof as cakes.

Even if you're new at this, i recommend casings... cakes are almost a waste of time, you can get a nice yield off cakes, but not nearly like u can on a horse poo casing cakes are easier... but casings arent that much harder...

Wash you hands with Anti-bacterial soap.....and you will be fine.
If you have fingernails....clean under them really good.
If you are really paranoid.....use a food processor.
Casings made from cakes take a little longer to grow than a cake itself. But the yeilds are much larger.

Technically, your yeild is determined by the amount or nutritious substate you start with. Casing may provide quicker, larger initial flushes, and fight off contaminants longer than cakes, but possible yield is not larger. Since a cake can get contaminated easier, it stops producing before reaching it's potential. If you are careful with handling and contaminants, cakes can produce just as much as casing.

Not IMHO & experiance . Casings of dung/straw or compost kick ass & produce BIG fruits -- in multiple flush's of many.

The first time i tried, was with b+, i did 12 jars, cased 10 and left 2 as cakes, casings are MUCH better in my opinion, yea, cakes are easy, but really, casing is just as easy, its just a little more work. Casings produce better pinsets and better flushes.
If i was you i would do a few cakes and a few casings, and let you find out which one you like.. Its all personal preference really...
