Quote: Gamestop always looked like a cool place to work, I always have good conversations with the employees whenever I'm in there and they've given me decent prices when I've traded in games.
Gamestop is NOT a cool place to work.
Ever seen the TV show the office? It's like that, but the bosses are even bigger losers. You're pressured to have phony, stupid conversations with the customers to try to sell them those stupid cards. Parents come in and leave their bratty, fucked up, ADHD kids in the store for HOURS at a time, like it's some sort of daycare service. And if you don't sell enough cards and reservations, they fire you.
Also, they pay you about 6.50 an hour (that was a couple years ago, I imagine it hasn't gone up much since in the region). When you get hired you sign a document saying you will not join or start a union. You always have the threat of being robbed. And to top it all off, the computer program they use to run transactions is some POS from 1992 that freezes and takes a million years to do anything, coupled with a 56k modem for credit card transactions.
Then there's the adult customers...... what can I say. Old losers that try to grab your ass and proposition you for sex, dorky idiots that think you must be SOO cool for working at Gamestop, you must be sooooo into the games that THEY like, and would you like to talk for 30 minutes about some crappy RPG boss while your boss hounds you to constantly re-alphabatize the entire inventory?
That's not all that sucks about that job. But it's a start. Maybe I'll remember more later.
Oh yeah! Everytime there was a super hero game release our nasty pudgy boss would make my friend patrick dress in a $5 lycra superhero suit from walgreens. Kids came up and grabbed his bulge constantly and a trucker tried to feel him up. Would you like to spend an eight hour shift dressed up like Spider-man with all your junk hanging out?
