Russia Threatens Poland because of US Missile D-System

What do you all make of it? I am not naive enough to think that the US isn't putting it there in large part because of Russia's recent activities. Do any of you think Russia's domination in Georgia is related in some way to this missile defense system, perhaps them trying to get a foothold for an oncoming strike against these defense systems?

The defence system is extremely threatening to Russia so I can see why they are unhappy about it. Personally I think it's a fucking stupid idea for the US to build it. It is the same as building more nuclear missiles and pointing them at Moscow. Of course Russia is unhappy about it.

I think the people of Poland should refuse to have it installed in their country since it makes them such a target. Building this shield does not make the world a safer place in any way :frown:

Russia has no authority over Poland.

Poland is free to install whatever defenses it wants in its country or allow any other country to install whatever defenses they want.

While it may not be the best idea to irritate Russia, appeasing someone for the sake of appeasement is no better. Russia has absolutely no right to interfere with Poland's business and should be met with disproportional force if they strike Poland.

Absolutely. They should build it if they want it. But they should think again about how much they want it. Having it there means that if the shit hits the fan between the US and Russia, Poland is dragged into it.

If I were a betting man, I would say Poland has probably considered this  :wink:

To be honest, I think Russia will have their hands full if they try to start any shit. Those rat-ass countries over there won't tolerate their aggression.

Which one is it?  Are we putting missiles in Poland because of the hostilities in Georgia, or are the hostilities in Georgia due to the missiles going to Poland?  You can't have it both ways. 

Do you think it is possible that the U.S. has had an interest in protecting itself, and Europe from a Russian threat for more than just the last week?  No, that's not possible.  Nor is it possible that recent events may have spurred Poland to become more receptive to protection against Russian aggression.  This hasn't been in the works for a long time.

First of all, allow me to point out that the entirety of the Ukraine, and Belarus lie between the bulk of Russia and Poland.  If Russia wants to start World War III, then that is their prerogative, but I'm guessing that that's not in the works just yet.  I'll also point out that West Germany and West Berlin were relatively safe places, thanks almost entirely to the enormous amount of American troops that were stationed there from the time of the Airlift, all the way to the fall of the Wall.

I think it justifies the Polish desire to have a defense to that type of attack in their country.

But that'd be like me announcing I'm going to put landmines in my front yard, and when the government says they will stop me, I use that as even more justification for putting the landmines there. While it makes logical sense to some degree, I've still made my world more dangerous.

Seeing how Russia treats it former allies, I think id be the first to sign up for missile defense.

Take a look at the propaganda streaming out of Russian news, a cult of personality around Putin, a wanton disrespect of international laws, gunning down journalists, murdering dissidents with radiation in sovereign countries, cyber attacking Estonian and Georigan infrastructure with DDOS attacks.

Russia is absolutely out of control.

we live in a savage world where predators prey on weaker beings and species are going extinct by the minute.

everyone wants all the comforts and things life has to offer, but no one wants to take responsibility for the costs.

as the world steadily and exponentially heats up, its going to start to boil, and eventually, people will meed to be "boiled off"

theres only so much room and resources to go around, and people just chew it up and spit it out, and one day it may get to the scenario above; ^ you vs. me over scraps.

I hope not, and i wish i had the power or time(!) to actually do something other than my own actions.

too bad i have work all the time and be a (tax)=(money)=(debt)=(labor) provider (peon/surf) for the stupid planners/warmongers in power

will we ever change?  are we even smart enough or capable of changing?  do most people want to change? are certein few people preventing majoritys from change? do they have something to gain from it?

Personally, I think the US is testing Russia's nuts. 

This is really a huge step back from the little progress that has been made thus far in trying to bring Russia in the 'western ways of development'. I think people who support this base should reconsider their positions a little. It's a common mistake in that 'western' countries assume that everyone should think like them and should hold governance the exact same way as they do.

This is NOT the time to be stacking missiles and defense bases around a country such as Russia.  It's easy enough, they will be your friends easily, and it has been working ( very slowly) thus far. Just don't fuck with them in this way.

Its fucked if Russia starts stacking nuclear missiles.  All it takes is one general with liquor in him to fuck things up. It's that kind of shit that is really scary.
