maybe if i watched tv at all you could say this, but i get all my news from alternative sources (infoshop.org, indymedia.org, or seminars and teach-ins at my college.)

let me explain something to you i learned in third grade. there are two sides to a political scale. in the middle, we have moderates. simple. on the left, it progresses from liberals to radicals to revolutionaries. on the right, conservatives to reactionaries to libertatians. now, i myself am very far to the left, pretty much an anarchist, yet you seem perfectly alright with calling me a liberal, which i am, only to a much stronger degree. by the same merit, you being a libertarian are nothing more than an ultra conservative. i was one too for a while, it just seems like a lot of bullshit to take power from the government and give it to corporations. Kow-Tow??? ok. well we kill hundreds and thousands every day because certain governments dont "kow-tow" to our needs. if a government isnt pro-US, pro-capitalism, they are viewed as a threat to america and we usually end up inserting a brutal dictatorship much more friendly to america. ever heard of the sandanistas?

funny, most people i see waving their flags are as ignorant to the truth as a hole in the wall. but you just keep flying your colors, it makes it much easier to avoid morons when they are proud to display it to the world.

Ok, let me intervene and make this simple for everyone.
Rogue nation launches lets say 25 nuclear missles at United States.
We are able to detect missles approxiametly 12 hours before impact on our soil.
Ok now we can have two different situations:
1) We have Anti missle defense system: Ok so we shoot down the missles, invade rogue nation, most likely destroy its military capabilties and we win. Everyones happy right?
2) We don't have anti-missle defense system: Ok, realizing we're under attack 12 hours prior to impact we launch every god forsaken nuclear ICBM missle we have left at rogue nation. Ok so, we loose 25 cities and the rogue nation loses almost its whole country (assuming most rogue nations aren't very large, not including China). Well everyones not happy.
Ok, that sounds as if its in support of anti-missle defense program. But picture this....
Who in their right mind would launch nuclear missles at the United States knwoing full well that they would be detected well before they landed and the US would retaliate and launch a LARGE barrage of missles at the rogue nation in its defense, in effect, wiping out the rogue nation. No nation would do it, except maybe China.
So basically, I beleive we are erecting this humungous project to protect ourselves from one nation.
Waste of money if you ask me. I agrre on the fact that if we erect this defense system countries will find alternative methos to do the same amount of damage, and those alternative methods can be more frightnening then missles aimed at US cities.
Examples : Terrorism... Not knowing whether or not anywhere you go you could end up a victim of terrorist violence ie: airplanes, large public areas, stadiums.
Look at Israel, yikes.
