The messages in commercials
    #8680846 -

I saw a commercial not long ago where they have a rather peculiar product. You saw a woman with a cold sore on her lip. A HERPES LIP LESION ok? The product was a tiny invisible plaster she put over it, then lipstick over that and the HERPES SORE was invisible. Then she went and met a guy and kissed him. :crankey:

While she is contagious with lip herpes!

What kind of message is that to send?
Got an STD? Buy our product to mask it and go out spreading the virus

Then there was a commercial for an OTC painkiller. You saw a guy with chronic joint pain. They pop a magic pill and the next moment you see him merrily overtaxing his elbow because he couldnt feel the pain.

Never mind the underlying illness being made worse, just pop a pill and act like theres no tomorrow. :mad2:

Pot and psychedelics have made me very aware of underlying messages, and particularly in the media they are sickening a lot of the time.

Have you guys noticed this effect of consciousness-expansion too? Its as if you're awake in the land of the sleeping. Its a trend I notice where drug-naive people think nothing of it, but psychedelics-using people notice the appalling messages in the media.

The way people are misled about OTC drugs, how they are lured into loaning money for trivial hedonism, how young children are tricked into eating the most terrible junkfood and indoctrinated into bothering their parents to get them the stuff, how stereotypical housewives apparently not just a shiny kitchen but also a harmonious family life, a frisky husband and a facelift when they use cleaning product X

And thats just the commercials, next stop is the news they want you to know.

Bleh.

.
How aware are you of dubious hidden messages in the media?
You may choose only one

If you have an open cold sore, the fluid from it is loaded with Herpes simplex virus.

Would you go down on a pussy with herpes sores? Its the same virus. When you have herpes sores, at those times you are contagious by contact with the sore liquid.

Its like the liquid in warts is contagious.

I've learned to pretty much block out any and all forms of advertisement. If theres something I want I'll figure out how to get it myself, I don't need to be told by some franchising yank on the television or on my radio.

The marketing strategies that arise out of capitalistic economy suck ass. Its the worst way of taking advantage of people.

yeah, i see that shit a lot, especially if for some reason the tv is on while im tripping.

i lol every time i see an ad for a new drug, the side effects are always horrible. the way they reach out trying to get viewers to self-diagnose depression with the list of symptoms on those goddamn commercials make me mad.

do you feel sad? lonely? tired? if you do, you are not normal, and should eat these pills so you don't have to think about it anymore. side effects are mild and may include loss of penis, parkinsons, suicidal tendencies, paralysis or maybe death.

I also had an Excellent Media Studies teacher in Grade 12.

Amazing woman!!  Taught us to find hidden messages, subvert the wills or corporate advertising.  Be our own people.

She was also an English teacher, and everyone thought she was a total bitch.

I believe she was just resentful as she taught brilliant lessons to idiots that would never care and disrespected her.  She treated them like shit I 'spose

I respected her, she noticed it and gave me excellent grades.

Oral herpes and genital herpes are NOT the "same" virus (I mean technically, maybe, depending on how we're classifying it).

The difference being: 2.5 billion people have oral herpes

If she has some sort of makeup covering the sore, it's probably going to prevent transfer, or at least make it much less likely.  If you're concerned about contracting something that's only detriment is a sore once every couple months on your gums, then don't kiss people while you have a cut in your mouth.

On to the main topic, I'm an avid watcher of commercials.  I enjoy calling commercials on their bullshit and interpreting who their targeting with their subtleties more than I enjoy actual tv.

A. I'm an idiot
B. I was thinking of canker sores, which apparently are NOT the same as cold sores.

All the time. Especially when stoned or on mushrooms. I've theorized that advertising blocks are specifically designed to elicit a set of emotions from the way commercials transition into others. For example, a late night cartoon advertising block will go from funny to food to video game to an ITT-like college specializing in law enforcement. My interpretation of this is that the ad-block is designed for teenagers (especially stoners) in order to 1.) make you giggle, 2.) exacerbate munchies, 3.) stoners like vidja games, then finally 4.) elicit paranoia. But maybe I'm just stoned :gethigh:

yea...sometimes when i was tripping or at least coming out of a trip like state i would have these epiphanies..like drugs were planted here(maybe not the synthetic materials used to create some of the harder drugs maybe) to tell us something...

richer for the experience ya know...

as for the guy taking a pill ofr joint pain...i have a herniated disc that i take aleve for because i still like to be mobile and do the stuff i used to be able to do...still take it a little easier than before though...

Charmin had one out a while ago that pissed off my dad quite a bit.

they had a red bear advertising "strong" toilet paper, and a blue bear advertising "soft" toilet paper, leaving the viewer to choose which one to buy.

normally:  red vs. blue = republican vs. democrat.
democrat = soft, republican = strong, somewhat fitting labels in some aspects.
(my dad also mentioned that the company that makes Charmin is conservative/right-minded)

i don't remember if they had the commercial out during any election times, or if this was really the intent of the commercial;  but now i notice that it only ran for a short time.

...i hope the strong paper was scratchy.

Whoa @ paper.

Yeah advertisements can be retarded... What gets me though is when the commercials is way louder then the actual show volume. It bugs the fuck out of me... I even email AE and I thought they might've changed it but I doubt it... I'm pretty use to turning my head away and not watch the TV when commercials come on but the volume thing fucking enraged me... I don't even watch that much television. Its better every once in a while.

I have gotten to a place where I refuse to listen to commercials if I am watching regular TV,I am good with the mute button.I almost never watch regular TV.I try to only watch the movie channels.I notice how idiotic the television is when I am under the influence of hallucinogens, they uncover the veil of deception for me.I absolutely abhor TV when I am tripping.I like to watch movies only,if that. They need to invent(I am sure they can already)a remote that will mute the commercials automatically with a push of a button.
