Of course I know that there are some rich folks who care about things that matter more then their money. That's why I said "a lot" and not "all".

Yes, I DO know some rich people. Or I should say I HAVE known some, and will probably meet more. There is a reason I didn't bring those acquaintances into the present of my life as friends, and it is the general disdain they approach those "lesser then them" with, and the selfish need to turn their backs on those who they could help if they were willing to sacrifice owning an iPhone, or a big screen HDTV.

The ridiculousness of saying I don't like them because they won't give me any money, after I informed you of my
personal distaste for wealth in my own life, only shows your POV is weak, and can only be defended by attacking me on an inaccurate personal level. (I'm a chick BTW)

Relative to most people in the world, you are a 'rich folk'.  Are you a soul-less bastard?

That is a good point. No. I am not a soul-less bastard. I was born into a society that has a much more comfortable existence then many other societies. I have observed my society from many view points, (I have also observed a far less comfortable society, from a luxurious position as a rich  American.) I have been upper-class, middle-class, poverty-level, and homeless. Like I said before, I find it much easier to "do the right thing" so to speak, while at poverty level. Little conveniences that MOST of us indulge in, like owning a car, often give us a more comfortable path, taking an alternate route that happens to bypass many of the things in life we could be learning from, or opportunities to help out where we are needed. Because let's face it, how often does need present itself as we sit comfortably in our climate-controlled homes, watching "America's Next Top Model"?

The "stress" that a previous poster mentioned is, for me, an urge to make things better. That stress is a necessary discomfort in my life. It reminds me that there is work to do. Maybe I will never solve world hunger, maybe I can't stop injustices from happening. But I can offer my assistance to those I come across in need, and I would rather have a little stress and be of help to this world in a small way, then sit comfortably in lackadaisical unawareness of suffering.

To be fair, I should have mentioned that too many poor people seem to have the opposite problem, causing the same effect. They become blinded to all but their own suffering. Not caring to heed another's call for help, because their own cries have gone unheard for so long.

But for me, who is the only one I can speak for, I find poverty a way to keep the important things in life on my mind, and close to my heart.

Death to all.

I hope that makes sense.

My advice is to find those things that give pleasure and do them often without too much attachment and relax and wait for the show to end.

-Icelander-

I like free markets and all. Truly I do, at least in general, but there needs to be some kind of oversight in recognition of sustainability. Life works the same way, on a bunch of sustainable systems. Why not honor what made us what we are and take some lessons? Nature FTW!

when we believe in the abundance of the universe, the abundance will always show itself. i have found in my travels in central america that there is such richness in poverty. not in regards to money so much but rather in faith and a sense of community and family. there may not be much to give monetarily-speaking but if you are hungry, your belly will be filled and if you need a place to rest your head, you've got it. a common sense of love and respect for all. laughter and faith that everything is going to be okay is prevalent. knowing that we are all connected and are brothers and sisters. there is less stress and less need to attempt to control every little detail. they know how to live, truly LIVE life. loving to live and living to love. give what you can and take what you need. live simply.

love light and blessings

"Satisfied Mind" by Jeff Buckley

How Many Times, Have u Heard Someone Say,
If I Had Money, I Would Do Things My Way.
But Little They Know, That It's So Hard To Find
One Rich Man In Ten, With A Satisfied Mind.

Money Can't Buy Back, All Your Youth When Your Old
A Friend When Your Lonley, Or Peace To Your Soul
The Wealtiest Person, Is A Pauper At Times
Compared To The Man, With a Satisfied Mind.

When My Life Is Over, And My Time Has Run Out,
My Friends and My Lovers, I Will Leave, Theres No Doubt
But One Things For Certain, When It Comes My Time
I'll Leave This Old World With A Satisfied Mind
But One Things For Certain, When It Comes My Time, Oh Yeah
I'll Leave This Old World With A Satisfied Mind mind mind, mind mind,
Satisfied Mind.

Money is just another ridiculous method humans developed to place a value on things.  Unfortunately we have created almost all of our societies on this foolish concept.  As a result we now spend our entire lives working towards obtaining it, waving as the world and universe around us passes by.  I find it amazing that people focus their entire life working towards obtaining money which has no actual value.  If a major crisis happens causing our infrastructure to crash we are almost all dead.  We no longer have the skills necessary to provide for ourselves without money. This is such an alarming idea that very few people seem to talk about.  We should take a step back as intelligent beings and rededicate ourselves to living as a part of nature, not simply using it.  I have tried to figure out a way to live a life without money but in America it seems almost impossible unless you have a group of people willing to do it with you.  Even then you still need money to buy a piece of land to live off of and pay taxes on.  We have a system which requires us to use a object that has no natural value.  This saddens me.

Why is it a foolish concept, exactly? Do things not have value?

How are we to live our daily live or discriminate against anything if we do not attach values to items.

Would you die to save a family member? No matter how you answer that question, you just assigned a value to your life and the life of a family member. Welcome to Earth. Enjoy your stay.

I don't work anymore. I also don't have any cash. I am a house husband. I have total freedom. I need an occupation more than I need money.  I cooked. I am a really great cook. But over the last twenty years I burned my bridges locally and now I am blacklisted. Impossible for me to get another chance. Really hard for someone like me to break out of my cage. I don't know many people.  Back when I worked I spent all my own money on charity and weird spiritual notions, and drugs. So money, as such,  for me was never very much a motivating factor. I am lucky I am not out on the streets.  I guess I am good to my wife and loving, or else if I was a schmuck she wouldn't have had much use for me. So luckily having other qualities besides a successful career can carry one through the hardest times.  Friends, family - ones local peers at the religious gathering, no matter what that may be, all these people are more important than money.

I had a dream once where I was stuck in a basement with a window over my head with alot of money.  But I couldn't stand on it to get out. A friend though came and I stood on his shoulders and escaped.  Hence, a good friend is better than pocket money, to quote Albert Griffiths.

PS, every day you see the rich and powerful and what become of them. They rise, they fall.  Real riches and power are not in the bill, but in the heart. In ones health, leasure, sanity, and friends and lovers. That's riches.  Time. Time is more important than money, or else ask Anna Nicole Smith what time it is?

I need money to pay the cost of living. I'd rather live in a non-money world. But it's not that way. I work for my money and i see no other way at the moment than to find a job that is bearable. I live alone and do elektro-mechanical repairs. It's interesting to see the mechanics of it all so it keeps me busy. I put some money aside for later... but i don't think i'm gonna wait too long before leaving for my last journey. Hey, money can't buy you love! All the best.

The paper bills and coins we currently use to value things have no real value themselves.  It is based on our governments promise that it will retain value but there is no guarantee.  Many times in recent history rapid inflation has left the value of certain currencies basically worthless: Germany after WWI, China, most recently Zimbabwe and their four billion dollar note.  We should not continue like this because in a very short period of time that million dollars you have in the bank could have the same value as a few thousand.  This seems so beyond reality because we have all become to comfortable with the norms of society.  Lets not forget the great depression and other economic downturns in American history.  We are not free from this possibility in fact it is inevitable that it will happen again.  We should be smart enough to learn from past mistakes and take a new route when valuing this or maybe go back to a barter system.

I am not saying that we should not put value on things.  I simply believe that a money based valuing system is extremely flawed and needs revision.  I would put my life in danger to save another, family member or not.  This is because I do not put a monetary value on life.

amen bluegold! we CAN live in a society where money is irrelevant and sharing and bartering is prevalent. you have something i need, i have something you need, let's trade! getting back to working with the earth as well will be crucial. it will be our generation that initiates and implements the changes that need to take place. we just have to start living life in that manner. sharing is caring dude! love love love. we are all one and we come from the same place. when we cease to place importance upon paper bills and materialistic possessions which are superfluous, we can begin to see that life can be lived simply and that the true needs are solely food, water, shelter, love and compassion, man. let's get back to basic. we are community and we are the change making the change a reality. we are one. love for all and all for love! sending lots of love and light in all directions for my brothers and sisters! loving you all! amor paz y luz

I don't know about the community we're all one love deal, but I do like the idea of bartering and trading for goods and services. It's like capitalism brought back to its primal roots.

You have something I need and I have something you need. No reason for money to need to be involved.
