Why not mix it with some vermiculite SpaceFarmer? Also, I think that ytou could add some uncooked grains, that will help loosen it up a bit.

You might consider soaking them instead of cooking them, next time...

I thought about adding a bit of vermiculite, I still might. I have used the pf style mix in quart jars before, and it is a bitch to shake. It did break up eventually, so that might be a good way to go. I'll probably add a little orchid bark too. As long as it gets sterilized, it shouldn't hurt. Who knows? Maybe the mycelium will get some kind of nutrition out of it too. It is basically ground up douglas fir. I thought I might use it in a pinch with a wood decomposer some day.

Good idea, Aural! I think that I will definitely go that way next time. I probably should have thought and read a little more before I cooked the grain. Amaranth turns rather gelatinous once cooked, and quinoa expands 400% while cooking! I started out with one pot, and ended up with three full pots going!

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've done this exact same thing before once, in a dream. Vermiculite will help to a degree. Basically, you
a.) overcooked
b.) included too much water

I personally just dreamt about using Workman's birdseed tek, available on his site... just add the right amount of grain and water (experiment with a couple runs) and pressure cook. If you get it right, it's not too sticky, not too dry. I had some dream sequences, quite long in fact, about experiementing with various pre-soak H2O amounts and times, and I enventually gave up and gave a bow to Workman's superior experience.
