It is a bit late in the year to start a bed now for a Fall fruiting.

I have been trying a new method that seems to be working well for caramel cap varieties. This is for experimental plots only and are fairly small in size.

Spores to agar
agar to grain spawn
spawn to sterilized wood chips in quarts

Make a thin layer of the colonized chips outdoors and cover with wetted fresh chips about 1 inch deep. Let colonize all spring and summer, allow to fruit in Fall.

Site selection is important. Choose a shady spot that is not completely sheltered from rain by a thick forest cover. A thick crop of weeds and grass in and around the bed helps maintain proper humidity. Thats all there is too it. If your climate is good, the shrooms take care of themselves.
