anybody here have to grow mushrooms with roommates and also keep them from knowing? btw when u grow mushrooms do they smell a lot or no?

I used to have to keep my hobby secret from my roommate till I kicked his ass out and my BF moved in who grows too. It is very easy to grow with out RM knowing  its just means planning in advance and staying up late as fuck. NO shrooms do not smell when they are growing.

Not that hard to organize stuff under your bed and then hide it. The hardest part for you will be PCing.

not that hard, the only problems i had were PCing and dehydrator running when the flushes were too big to fan dry.

the only time they smelled was on large flushes AFTER they were harvested and laying out to dry.  But fabreeze fixed that.

I am currently growing without my girlfriend knowing we live in an apartment that has a balcony with an outdoor closet and I grow in there.

It is insulated but not air conditioned so it always feels kind of warm in there during these summer months. 

Here is what I have going on.

Inside of a strofoam cooler I have a mycobag of two pounds colonizing. Then when it is colonized I have a rubbermaid tub with metal trays, a misting bottle, perlite and MGMC. That is my fruiting chamber. In addition to those two things I have a small drybox from kayaking that I keep my syringes and spores in.

When you open the closet nothing looks out of ordinary and it looks well organized.

I also have a drybag that I keep all of my other stuff like lysol, rubbing alcohol, gloves etc...

It's easy to do as long as you know you are going to have a little bit of time each day like when he/she is in the bath or something.

in vitro is a great stealth grow tek, but yeilds tiny amounts of deformed caps. i would reccomend a small casing that fits into a drawer. take a 6 quart "shoe box" container and make the substrate two inches deep. use saran wrap for a lid. this can fit anywhere easily and yeild a 1/2 oz to 1 1/2. a casing this small can easily be done with pf tek as spawn (WORKS WOUNDERFULLY!)

they fit well under beds, in closets

CHECK OUT LAY YOULN'S stealth grow tool box. that is by far the best stealth design on shroomery.

Just put a monotub into a larger box, and equip it with an ultrasonic humidification disk (20$ on eBay) or an air pump setup...

I put my monotub in the box my desktop was shipped in. Works fine.

I've managed so far to keep my grow which is at the fruiting stage concealed to my brothers and mother who don't agree on the use of mushrooms, it's been a little risky and I've had a few near misses but it's all good so far.

I live with my folks, but have my own floor. However, we use the same kitchen and washroom.

I usually PC everything on a day, and/or evening I know they are out for a few hours. I keep an incubator, FC, and some materials in a locked closet. To cover up the purchases of soils and perlite, etc, I planted a few herbs and spices in pots outside to satisfy curiosity. Since light can sometimes escape the cracks of my closet, I make sure the light is timed to come on in the evening and to turn off in early morning (ie, when there's no chance the folks come into my room). Hide all your grow books. Don't go into the closet if there's a remote chance that they could come into your room. Be EXTREMELLY tidy...ie., don't leave any traces of Perlite in the tub. If anything makes noise, like a humidifier, keep the TV on, or my favorite, the A/C to cover up the noise. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, make sure your operation is safe...ie., no wires can come into contact with water, and that lights (if using high intensity, which you shouldn't have to) can't catch anything on fire.

Oh, and have an alabi! lol

It's a challenge, but it makes it all the more fun!

does sound like a plan- think it would work without the hultrasonic and shit?

I mean, u put your smaller monotub, with the lid on. inside another tub with its lid off. That way, if concealed underneath a bed- it only looks like one regualar tub, without holes or polyfill. of course, the light source radiating from underneath the bed will cause a problem.... better find some christmas lights.

When I go into my second year of uni in September, I will be growing some Ecuadorians in my house but luckily all my house mates can't wait. I'm just going for standard PF tek.

Have you tried talking to your room mate, seeing if they would be cool with it?
