If you can apply heat to the area it will help. Stretching, assuming you know your limits, will also help within a short period of time. Drinking more water helps, as well as taking a walk.

All those things notwithstanding, medical marijuana is effective, particularly in edible form.

thanks. I just read up on decompression therapy aka hanging upside down and it seems like a long term solution. i will put some heat on it tonight however. thanks again.

oh... and I don't have medical marijuana, but it seems that whenever I smoke the pain is nonexistent. My spine actually feels straighter after I smoke. Do they give out medical cards for this? I can't get one now because I'm in arkansas, but as soon as I get back to colorado I'll check it out.

They do indeed prescribe medical marijuana for scoliosis.

Just be careful about anything you do with your spine. Its very sensitive and if it gets hurt your in trouble. Is hanging upside down widely accepted? People have had there spines ruined by doing new age type things. I would be careful because I'm not sure if humans are built to hang upside down. It could be good, but the spine is very sensitive so you have to be really careful what you do with it. My girlfriend has the same problem, i usually give her a massage when it flairs up, and heat packs seem to be good.

Spinal twists are great. Stuff like this:

I had considerable scoliosis on the order of an inch or two one direction or the other at the most extreme points of comparison. This was discovered was I was an adolescent and was present at least into my late teens.

When I was about 19 I started a fairly mild but dedicated yoga practice and kept it up for about 2.5 years. Two years ago (about 2 years after not keeping up the yoga practice)I went to my chiropracter whom I had know since I was a kid. He was offering free spine X-rays as a special and in the shots he took of my spine, my lateral alignment was pretty much arrow straight.

I don't know what all the involved factors were. In high school I frequently had to lug around a really heavy duffel bag full of drum and cymbal stands and I could feel that bending my spine out of shape. I also became very conscious of breathing and opening my chest so to speak, as well as being conscious of posture, especially during the years of the yoga practice. Also, when I got the X-rays taken my intention was to have my alignment be as good as possible whereas years earlier when I had been assessed using a plumb line I was just a pissed off kid wanting the thing to be over with. So I'm not sure what the story is but I'm fairly sure certain asanas, particularly ones involving spinal twists, are a good thing for scoliosis.
