I thought this was an interesting topic, so I read through a few sites that appeared when I searched 'if the Bible denounces drug use'. From what I've read (over the last 10 minutes), the Bible does not specifically describe drug use beyond alcohol, which seems to be unacceptable in itself.

Here,, the most prominent reasoning against the use of illicit drugs in our modern society is the fact that Jesus explicitly encouraged his disciples and followers to obey the laws of the land, apparently with no exceptions being made to that rule if one does not agree with the laws of the land.

"To begin with, we are under a universal mandate to respect and obey the laws of the land (Deuteronomy 17:2; Ecclesiastes 8:2-5; Matthew 22:21; 23:2-3; Romans 13:1-7; Titus 3:1; 1 Peter 2:13-17; 2 Peter 2:9-11). The ONLY instance in which we are allowed to disobey the laws of the land is when the laws violate any divine imperatives (Daniel 3 and 6; Acts 5:29). There are no other exceptions to this rule. Contrary to popular belief, simply disagreeing with a law does not constitute a license for breaking that law."

This doesn't make any sense to me. Obeying the law of the land could mean anything, as we are governed by men, not a God. As for divine imperatives, wouldn't the fact that we live in a society more involved in our own personal satisfaction than the betterment of others go against the teachings of Jesus in itself? We spend and spend, always looking for the next gratifying experience, all the while ignoring the rest of the world, billions of people are suffering in some way, shape or form and we do nothing about it. We have the (potential) power to end world hunger, cure diseases, make peace with our fellow human beings -despite the color of their skin or what they believe-. Yet we still make war, we spend billions to 'defend ourselves', we experience a breakthrough in our own entertainment every month (newer, better, faster entertainment: computers, cars, music, etc etc), yet all of this energy takes away from real research and human energy that could be spent curing cancer, developing strategies to reduce third world debt and produce working economies that will lift billions of people out of poverty.

I don't know, did that make any sense? I'm still trying to regain my focus from an intense LSA trip yesterday, so sorry for the ramblage.

Me and this kid in my class just got into this discussion about "natural" drugs and christianity. I claim to have christian ideals, as does he, but he is more "strict" about his beliefs.
Anyways he saw that I was roaming around on this site and asked me why I was on this type of site if I claimed to be a christian (which I never did, but I let that slide). I told him that doing shrooms is a spiritual thing and so is smoking weed. He obviously didn't like that.
With a snicker he tried to quote some verses, none of which were in context with drugs. He tried to tell me that there was no way it could be spiritual, but proceeded to tell me that alcohol was ok in moderation...are you kidding me? Alcohol is the only "drug" that the bible specifically says is bad.
My other arguement was that marijuana and shrooms are natural, unlike things of man (as the book describes it). Someone give me some more fuel to burn these ideas out of his head.

Ask him what he thinks Manna of the Old Testament was. They sound like psilocybin mushrooms to me.

Defined what "alcohol" means ?

Genesis 1:29-30
Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground?everything that has the breath of life in it?I give every green plant for food.
