what do you want to know about Scientology beliefs?
    #8014933 -

Since there seemed to be a recent rise in intrest about it, I figured it might not be a bad idea to answer questions about it.

Now, I am not a Scientologist, but I do know a shit load about it... especially its beliefs.
and that is what I want to focus on, the beliefs. Im sure people will post videos from clambake and whatnot, but oh well, that comes with the territory I guess.

So if you have any questions concerning what a scientologist believes, like regarding afterlife, philosophy just any doctrines... feel free to ask them and I will answer them to the best of my ability and knowledge.
Now I promise to not tell you anything that I dont know to be true regarding the churchs beliefs, and if so, i will preface it with "i believe". Because I havent been aroudn any scientologists for a while, my knowledge is probably 5 years or mroe out of date... but I dont think that much has changed.

so... ask away.

Do they rely believe that boeing 747s flew in space long ago? People say that when they talk shit... Seems to me its just a description of what the craft looked like. It wasnt an actual jumbo jet.

Anyway, Im against all the scientology hating. Freedom of religion FTW.

well, I have spent a few years around it... also my mother is OT7.
I have read many books on it, as well as had hours upon hours of discussion with scientologists.

I asked a scientologist once about their beliefs in the frozen volcano aliens and stuff.. because of the South Park episode.

I was disappointed when she made a joke about it and then made it clear that alien visitation isn't even a blip on their radar :frown:

I'm all for freedom of religion, which is why I'm against Scientology. The Church of Scientology viciously prosecutes anyone who practices Scientologist beliefs without being a member of the church, which costs a lot of money.

Don't swallow the BS.

There a disproportional amount of chiropractors that are also Scientologists and they talk to me about this damn cruise ship all the time.

Haha, random! Do you see a lot of chiropractors? Maybe they were interested in medicine and that was about all they could do that didn't conflict with their beliefs?

chiropractors are heavily endorsed by Scientology. They suffured the same burden as they did while trying to be legitimized. The medical associations would not recognize them because of its efficacy and radical ideas... still to this day the myths about chiropractors are alive. it was a threat to MD's and such so they tried to suppress it.

also the practice, and general understanding from the chiropractic community is parallel with certain things scientologists believe...
I found this site... Chiro-watch..
really serious people who still claim that chiropractors are scam artists, but also make sure that you stop going to them because they are in leagues with scientologists.
http://www.chirowatch.com/cw-scientology.html

and the cruise ship is the only place in the world that you can do OT8. It is called Freewinds. It is basically a church on the water, you can do almost any course on it.

here is a wiki link to it, it even has the prices for OT8 and other stuff.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freewinds

it says 10k for OT8... which isnt bad when you think about being on a cruise ship for a while and compare it to the cost of equal amount of time in a psychiatrists office.

Im pretty sure they dont claim that it doesnt work... they just feel that the entire foundation is corrupt and misguided.
Most likely it is because scientology believes in what is called Engrams, and they dont like that western medicine completely ignores trauma.

(im going to explain this in layman terms, so that it is more understandable, but it isnt verbatim).
An engram is a memory with a "charge"... basically an emotional build-up, that was caused by not confronting trauma. They believe that we store memories at (this is approx. since I cant remember the exact number, but it is close) 24 frames per second. and each frame contains over 50 types of data from input... such as sound, smell, external temperature, internal temperature, etc.
so here is an example I give to describe it.
lets say that when you were 8, you were playing outside while your dad was mowing the lawn, when suddenly a rock flies out of the lawnmower and nails you in the leg...
then 10 years later, you are mowing the lawn, and all of the sudden your leg really starts to ache, right at that scar you got from the rock.
now they believe that we are constantly referring to similar memories that we experience in the present as we go along our day (subconsciously, in a way).
So if that day you got hit with a rock, you smelled freshly cut grass, it was 82 degrees, you heard the sound of a lawnmower, and felt the vibrating vinyl of the handle... you would automatically recall that traumatic moment when these conditions were created again... and as such you would revisit that pain.

so they use what they call "Touch Assist".
it is rather difficult for me to explain... so here is a page on it.

http://www.scientologyhandbook.org/SH6_4.HTM

that has the theory, procedure, and uses of it.

so, I guess to completely answer your question, scientology doesnt claim modern medicine is useless, in fact, look at rule number 0 for the touch assist... but rather they believe that the common procedures create engrams and various other things in people.
My mother is a nurse that specializes in Liver Transplants, and has been a nurse for the last 30 years... and there was never any conflict with that I believe.
