Tobacco Cultivation and Curing
    #8008758 -

Me and some other shroomites are trying to grow and cure some tobacco...

So PLEASE- Don't post any fucking vendors!

I don't want this thread closed like the last one...

Ya want a vendor, PM somebody...do not post it in the thread!

No vendor discussion in the E.G.!!! :devilguy:

Tobacco Cultivarion and Curing-

I really enjoyed growing and curing tobacco last year...although I could have done a better job curing.

This year I'm going to make an interesting blend of American and World Tobaccos.

I'm going to have the following-

Three "Bonanza" Tobacco plants
Three "Kelly Burley" Tobacco plants
Three Turkish/Oriental-"Samsun" plants
One Perique Tobacco plant

I found a somebody in TN, that will ship plants at the begining of the growing season, so I don't have to grow from seed! Hooray!

Growing Tobacco-

Allow half the plants to flower. Cut off the other half of the plants buds as they appear for bigger leafs.

????????????Soil Requirments??????????????????

Curing Tobacco-

As the leafs turn yellow pick them off, staring at the bottom and working your way up, until all the leafs are picked.

After picking each leaf, place it into a well ventilated outdoor hardwood chest, full of freshly cut cedar sticks. After the last leafs are harvest and placed into the chest, wait Seven weeks.

Once Seven weeks have passed, remove the leafs from the box and “Hand-tie” them, with natural rope. Spray the “Hand-tied” leafs with water and gently shake them out.

After the leafs are washed, hang the “Hand-tied” leafs next to small, smoky hardwood fire, to smoke for Seven hours.

Hang the leafs outdoors in an Area sheltered from the rain, for Seven days.

Cut the large central vein out of each leaf.  Roll every Seven leaf halves into a bundle. Place the bundle into a wooden box with freshly chopped Vanilla pods.

Place the box into a bag, seal the bag and bury it for Seven weeks.

After Seven weeks dig the bags and box back up. Remove and discard the chopped Vanilla pods. The tobacco is now ready to smoke. Store in an air-tight glass jar.

Tips are welcomed!

"Bonanza" Bright leaf, "Kelly Burley", Turkish/Oriental-"Samsun" and Perique Tobacco should blend together nicely.

I'm making a bunch of cigs!

Last year my home grown was 100 times better than any commercial tobacco product I've ever smoked.

You get that goooood, woody tobacco flavor.

I wanna build a curing chamber.
I would install thermostatically controlled heat though. you really gotta sweat the leaves good.

also if I had that and grew enough tobacco I would get an electric cig roller. bye bye trips to the store for high priced smokes that are loaded with shitty chems

I roll my own with a small roller.

Filters can be bought at the store.

I grow my own tobacco each spring...

Just a few plants last me a whole year...but I don't smoke much.

Man, does it taste great tho...

I don't know how people actually smoke commercial cigarettes...

They make me fuckin' sick.

growing tobacco is actually VERY rewarding.

in a 8mx1m retangle you can grow say 8 plants (which in reality you can grow more in that space), that's 800gr of tobacco, enough for almost 300 cigarretes, 15 packs. and that's aiming low, i've heard of growing enough for 3.000 cigarretes in the same space.

and it's a very forgiving plant, rather easy to grow, and produce a lot of seed.

Alot better!

I personally don't like spirits that much...compared to the home grown.

Tho they are the only commericial ciggerette I buy.

They do seem to be a pretty good company.

Do you pack your spirits? Your not supposed to...

Roll the cigarettes between your fingers to loosen the tobacco.

I heard that cutting buds (not allowing plants to flower) and allowing plants to flower produces different flavors and sizing in the leafs, as well as different psychoactive chemical make-ups...

So, I'm nippin' half the buds and allowing half to flower...

Supposedly plants which do not flower have bigger leafs and plants that do flower have higher nicotine.

Can anybody tell me about the soil requirments for tobacco?

I'm also looking for organic fertilizers...does anybody know of any for tobacco?

Soil requirements is no real issue, the soil here is basically clay with a bit of top soil. Just add a small amount of wood ash if you have trouble.

I heard you are meant to leaf spirits out for a week to let them dry. I love american spirit - but it is nearly impossible to get it here :frown:

How do you cure your 'backy FFH? I have tried but i kept getting white mold, i aint smokin dat.

From seedling to harvest it's like 90 days.

well, 90 days?!

you may grow it as soon as the seeds rippen in the pods, which would make for a year of growth.

of course you can start later, but you'll have smaller plants.

shitty soil=shitty plants, but they'll grow and flower if that's what you aim for. the plants i'm currently growing are the seeds from plants that were in the most compacted soil possible.

better soil=greener, larger, more potent leaves.

best thing you can do if you never treated the soil in any way is to make a dead cover with grass clippings, don't water it, let the rain water wet the plot. you'll see after a week or two that the dirt will be way softer.

I don't want them to set seed...I'm gonna clip the buds on most of them and not even allow them to flower...

I think 90 days is about right from seedling to harvest.

Right....early spring is when I'm planting seedlings....

And then harvest as the leafs turn yellow, starting at the bottom and working my way up.
