When I smoke tobacco I break out in nasty allergic rashes. Even though I can't smoke cigs, I miss the art of smoking. Does anyone know of any cool legal smoking herbs? I'm looking for something that tastes/smells really good. Or a legal herb that actually does something to you. (Besides salvia!!) Anyone know any cool legal smoking herbs like this? ANd where to get them?>

I have no idea if it would work, but smoke some wormwood. I do believe certain species of it are legal in the U.S. If you're unsure of what wormwood is, it's the reason Absinthe is illegal in the states. In Europe, they use a high-quality species of it to produce the hallucinogenic effect Absinthe possesses. In the states, the knock-off Absinthe contains a mild species of wormwood, if any. But it's a plant, and you're allergic to tobacco, so go for it if you can find it. Try it at your own risk, though. I've never heard of anyone smoking it.

Wormwood isn't hallucinogenic, it's just an old myth. Thujone is a neurotoxin.
What I would recommend is some Chillinmix or Spice or something. These are legal smoking blends that have pretty much the same effects as weed, and they don't taste half bad either.

Ah, so thujone is only found in grand wormwood, if that's the wormwood in Absinthe. That would make sense and would be why some species of wormwood are legal in the states: no thujone, no problem.
I appreciate the enlightenment.

I'm pretty sure the shit they sell in Europe is not what we're getting in the States. If you'd like to link me to an article stating Absinthe is legal in the states, I'd be more inclined to believe you, but I think you're referencing the anise liqueur, which is not Absinthe.

Quote:
Is absinthe legal? Absinthe is legal in many countries. There are still countries that prohibit and limit the production and sale of absinthe. For example, absinthe must be "thujone free" to be sold in the United States.
Even though absinthe containing thujone is prohibited
Quote:
Why is a "thujone free" absinthe now being sold in the United States? As of October 2007, the TTB a bureau under the Department of the Treasury has updated policy regarding the use of the term "absinthe" on labels of distilled spirits products and in related advertising material. They have approved the use of the term "absinthe" on the label of a distilled spirits product and in related advertisements only if the product is "thujone-free" pursuant to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) regulations.
Absinthe containing thujone levels greater than 10 ppm cannot be sold in the United States because the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not allow the sales of spirited beverages that contain the chemical compound thujone.
I kinda de-railed this thread doing this but oh well, I don't know shit about this stuff so I don't know how it would differ from the traditional stuff, doesn't mean you still can't order it here and hope they don't confiscate it.
EDITED: Oh yeah also found this...........

Quote:
Is there any problem sending shipments of absinthe to the USA? La Boheme UK Ltd. accepts absinthe orders from almost any country in the world. We have been shipping absinthe to the USA for ten years now and we have had no negative comments regarding customs procedures. Thujone is still banned in the U.S., but as a food rather than a drug. You aren't allowed to distill or commercially make absinthe, but you can legally own a bottle and even make your own as long as it isn't distilled. All of our Czech Absinthe products are being sent in plain cardboard boxes, description of the product and absinthe cocktail recipes are enclosed with every parcel. Our standard delivery time is usually 10 working days.

True and true. Smoking something with thujone in it would be a horrible idea.

try smoking pedicularis species. also called elephants head, indian warrior, cobra head and parrots beak. they are a genus of parasitic plants that grow in the high mountain meadows here in oregon. you can buy them in health food stores or maybe online. the company that sells them is called columbine wizardry and herbs i think. they will make you sleepy and taste better than most smokeables. another is mad dog skullcap and it'll get you pretty stoned feeling but i hate the taste. it tastes like unripened cola tips or nasty cake frosting. some people like it though. nothing can beat good herb though. oh, has anyone actually tried wormwood? you can get it here. it's called artemesia absinthium. seeds and the herb are easy to find. it'll make you go crazy though and is THE most bitter substance ever, and i've taken some mighty bitter plants. the bitterness lingers in the mouth for about half an hour too. not even worth trying. white sage is great for smoking but not as good as hummingbird or pitcher sage(salvia spathacea), not texas hummingbird sage though, although it's nice too. salvia spathacea isn't being sold anywhere. you have to pick it yourself in the sierra madre mountains to the beaches between los angeles and san francisco. it smells and tastes like pineapples and is so enjoyable. i can't believe nobody uses it. i grow it in my greenhouse. it's has sticky trichomes like herb too. yummy
