Just bought 300ml of absinthe

It's pretty hard to get down. I imagine it's going to be one interesting trip, for sure.

Who's with me on this trip?

I dont think absinthe today is like the absinthe from back in the day.

The absinthe of back in the day wasn't like "the absinthe of back in the day". Thujone does not make you trip.

exactly its pretty much been proven that absinthe just gets you pretty drunk due to the high alcohol content, you won't be seeing any green fairies unfortunately...and only 300ml? lol you prob wont even get drunk off that.

It tastes like extremely strong licorice, I mean extremely extremely extremely strong! It just sits in my mouth too, I finally got the courage to swallow it and it went down pretty easy. But other than that, it feels pretty wierd. The effects are strong; I can feel them coming on already. Psychadelic...mmm.

It has not been banned, it's alcohol with herbs. They banned thujone, which is found in the herbs. They removed/isolated it apparently. Idk why.

Absinthe does NOT make you trip. It gets you shitfaced drunk really fast, that's it. Are you at least mixing it with sugar and water like you're supposed to or are you just doing shots?

You're supposed to add ice cold water to it drop by drop at about a 1:3 absinthe-to-water ratio.

Actually, they tested modern Absinthes being produced today here in the US, in Switzerland, and France, and they were found to contain about the same levels of Thujone as popular pre-ban era Absinthes, despite today's regulations on Thujone levels. Many of them follow recipes of the era to the letter, and even use the same antique copper alembic stills. Not much difference at all.

Drinking it as a shot definitely is, anyway. Why would you drink it if you don't like the taste? That's all it has, basically. That and reputation.

So.. thats what I was doin wrong.. what about the sugar thing? You supposed to pour the absinthe over a cube and then set the cube on fire?

Supposed to, schmupposed to. If you think it's too bitter, add sugar. Lighting it on fire melts it and makes it mix better, and looks cool.

You don't use fire, that's something the Czechs developed as a gimmick. Fire will ruin the spirit most people pay damn good money for. Czech absinth isn't even traditional absinthe, it's an entirely different product altogether save for a few distilleries there, and the product is swill.

But yes, you can add sugar. It's not absolutely necessary. I don't usually like it, but it depends on what brand Absinthe it is.

You place the sugar cube on top of a slotted spoon which rests over the glass of absinthe, and slowly pour the water over the sugar cube to dissolve it into the drink.

I don't know man.. 300 mL is like 10 ounces.. which is probably 5 to 7 shots

i'd be pretty sauced off 5 shots of high proof booze

i'm just asking cause i have a huge and expensive bottle of the stuff that I haven't been touching cause it tastes so frickin nasty.
