The ritual of making the drink is the best part about absinthe. The cost of a bottle is far too high though for what we actually get from drinking it.

Mrs Fly won´t let me buy it - I get too brainless on it. Absinthe has never been illegal in Spain and has been made here for 150 years. Last time I bought a bottle of Mari Mayans I paid about €14.

Spanish Absente has evolved away from being an oldtime Absinthe though.

Duplais and Jade are good brands and you pay through the nose for those.

I once steeped an ounce of wormwood in vodka. The resulting green stuff was incredibly bitter, I mean just crazily so. I would use a small amount in tonic which made for a decent drink. The effect was subtle, but there was definitely something to it that was mildly psychoactive, and quite pleasant.
