I do on occasion. It has a nice buzz to it. Unique drunk feeling.

Since it is expensive, I don't usually buy it or use it often. Some friends of mine usually have it.

Never experienced any kind of actual psychedelic feeling, but it sure is potent as far as the drunk does.

Hear hear!  Absinthe rocks, definitely strong notes of licorice upon the palette. 
Then again, my opinion may be taken lightly, as I love pretty much anything alcoholic! :smirk:

I've been looking over some of the absinthe sold by alandia, an online vendor... but there are so many choices with varying prices.

they're all pretty expensive, though. I want to buy myself some absinthe, but I'm wary of spending a wad of cash on something that might not wind up being very good.

If you want the psychedelic effects from absynth you'll need a mixture with around 100 mg thujone/kg. The 10mg/kg thujone absinthe that is commonplace will not get you more than drunk.

In my limited experience, absinthe is really easy to get down, much moreso than 40% alchs.

I know Czech absinthe's can be quite good, however, I read that within the EU there is a legal limit of 10 mg/kg of thujone, and this limit is the same for Canada/USA (you can buy 10 mg/kg absinthe from duty stores whil crossing the border).

Oh yeah, I was sent some "wormwood dark amber resin" for free once. Supposedly it could be smoked, but it didn't really produce significant effects for me.

i saw a bottle of "absinthe" with the whole setup (the special glasses, slotted spoons, etc) in the liquor store recently... it even had a warning sticker on it that said "contains wormwood" which kinda surpsised me since im in the us and its illegal here (unless they changed something)

My assumption is that 10 mg/kg is legal in the US, based soley on it being sold at a duty free store on the US/Canadian border that I've been to. 10 mg/kg won't produce any sought absinthe effects.

on the history channel show i watched they said it is not supposed to produce any extra strange effects waht so ever.

The reason people thought that was beacause i guess origionally cheep absith had alot of copper in it, which makes you have greenish areas around your eyes. Thus making people think it produced some other effects.

However its not supposed to do anything except make you very drunk.
It also once almost became the "Frances" Drink over wine.

I don't know about copper, but there were noticeable traces of lead that could easily leach out of the stills used for cheap absinthe at the time. Lead that would give the absinthe drinker a gradually worsening case of lead poisoning.

Combine that with the alcohol poisoning, and you're bound to start noticing some very pronounced "effects".

yes apparently there is alot of poor absinth.

on teh show, the guy got some bottles of some of the best types of absinth ever.  He tried them all and came up with the  best one.  Then he reverse enginered the absinth to know how to make it.  THus he owns a absithnery :smile: and makes high quality absinth like in the old days for the rich.

and the reaosn it was once almost frances nation drinkw as because i think there were very poor wine harvests so people drank teh absinth cuz it was cheeper and it got them alot more drunk.  it almost took over wine.
